[#1534093]

Got my medical next week so I can apply for a provisional HGV license. I wear glasses, and I know my corrected vision is fine. But they say: the uncorrected visual acuity in each eye must be no less than 3/60

What does this mean? It concerns me a little as I know my uncorrected eyesight wasn't good enough to get into the Police when I applied about 10 years ago.

Anyway of gauging my visual acuity at home before the medical?!

If you can read the top line of the opticians board that's about 6 / 60 (so better than 3 / 60 )

Less than 3/60 and you can be registered legally blind

You'll be fine. Iirc you'll just do the standard eye test ie reading the letters on the wall, however epilepsy and diabietes are a big no no.

3/60 means that without glasses you can see at thereto feet what others can see at sixty feet.

I don't think I would be able to read any of the opticians board without glasses ๐Ÿ™‚ I can't actually remember if they ever tested me with unaided vision recently...

But I'm sure that stuff I can read at 60 feet with glasses, I could read at 3 feet without...so thanks for that ๐Ÿ™‚

Edit: You said 'thereto' I assumed that meant three, but if its thirty I might have a problem...
