[#7826485]

Dear people who reside along the A69,

I've just been given a job at very short notice. I have to shoot pictures of a car in the Haltwhistle area on Sunday morning. They're usually in urban areas and we always find something suitable but now I'm heading out into the sticks with no knowledge of the location.

Are there any deserted urban backdrops? Or any rally stage style forest roads that will be open to drive onto? Or any twisty B roads with somewhere to park and a nice backdrop?

I'm Google mapping now but obviously local knowledge is far superior.

Thanks

Could you drive as far as the top of the A686 at Hartside Summit? It's spectacular.

Yes it is but it's very busy on a Sunday morning. I got the impression the owner wants to stay in the Hexham area.

There's loads of amazing looking gravel roads on the map but they all have locked gates on.

Moorland above Edmundbyers/Blanchland (Meadows Edge/B6278)? Might be a bit far, but has lovely smooth tarmac, twisty road, and great views.

Hexham or Haltwhistle? They are 15 miles apart.

Otterburn Ranges. Bit out of the way, but proper forest fire roads, open bits etc.

Or, hop of haltwhistle, across the military road to the wall, there are loads of cool places

Actually, the more I look the less worried I am. It's a very nice place whichever way you look at it. I just get nervous going into the unknown. I'm now planning to turn up an hour early and have a drive around.

Yeah basically in Northumberland once your are off the A/B roads there are a million tiny farm roads which are open, there might be gates but the ones on public roads are not locked.

Forest drive Kielder or whatever it is called?

That was shut a few weeks ago, not sure if its re-opened now? There were trees blocking the road near the 68 end, suppose might still suit the requirements as its still accessible, just not a through route.

take a drive up North Bank from Haydon Bridge up to the Military road. No problem pulling in and some great panoramas. Plus the place where Cav fell off on the ToB.

The long straight road at the back of Hadrian's wall.

If you get there earlier might get some nice shots with the road disappearing into the distance.
