Thinking of taking the Mrs on a city break, looks great, but would like to hear your experiences.

Helsinki's nice - small and chilled, but the real thing is the countryside just outside. Head for Nuuksio national park which borders the city, and walk/ride/ski/sauna. It's lovely. Take some meat for the barbecue huts ๐Ÿ™‚

Don't go in April or May tho since the countryside is snow-free but pretty dormant by then. If you go now it'll be winter wonderland.

You'd do well getting a guidebook and hiring a car, and Tallin just over the water in Estonia is also superb. If you want to stay inside a city then Tallin would be a better bet I think.

I like Helsinki, but then my wife's Finnish so so I'm biassed! Got some pretty cool bars and restaurants and as said above it's nice and chilled. The harbour is also nice and you can take a ferry across to a big fort which is cool in summer, but might not be ideal now. The Finnish countryside in general is awesome and at the moment is particularly cool as it should be good snow conditions for cross country skiing or renting a skidoo.
