need something with better ability than our laptop, ideally id get seperates but its not really feasible for a few reasons. so which would you go for? im inclined to go for the dock as it means the laptop can roam (as it was born to do)

I've heard the Soundsticks, and they are remarkably good for the money, I have to say. Dunno about the Dock thing. Is it a wireless gizmo?

I've got a Klipsch Sound-dock type speaker system which seems pretty good, gets really good reviews on Amazon.co.uk and is significantly cheaper than a Bose.

If you've got one of the latest gen iPods just be aware they won't charge in all but the newest speaker docks.

Ah, just realised - you don't actually mention iPods 🙂

Comments still stand re the Klipsch though.

sorry yeah the dock would be used with a 2nd gen nano, ill have a look at those suggestions. i like the soundsticks but something that works independently of the comp would be handy

I may be being stupid but how would the soundsticks be computer-bound. Surely they just plug into the wall and then into your iPod via the jack plug?

I'm looking at the Soundstick II though - may be different. Looks quite funky though 🙂

HK soundsticks are amazing. They need to be heard to be believed.

With the little subwoofer, that can sit behind your screen, under your desk or wherever, the Soundsticks deliver a really 'big' sound, for sucha small set-up. I jolly well have not heard any speaker systems without a subwoofer, sound as good. Not a huge amount of power, and maybe not something audiophiles would appreciate, but plenty good enough to give a good sound for most small to medium sized rooms. Deffo very good value for money, compared with most other things.

And if you combined them with an Airport Express Base Station, you could have your music play from any computer in the house. That set-up should come in at under £200.

Your welcome. 😉

I've seen some on eBay recently - may ship to abroad. Happy shopping 🙂

A friend got the Bose sound dock thing for his Christmas present. I'm gobsmacked at how utterly excrement it is for the price. The performance of a £40 boom box wrapped up in a piano black finish for £200! I see there is a Mk2 maybe that's better because I struggle to see how it could possibly be worse. Avoid imo.
