hi all, planning on getting my first GPS, primarily to avoid those end of journey arguments about map reading (i'm driving…)
anyways, my main question is, is it common to be able to pick points to travel through or to avoid, or to modify the units chosen route? or am i stuck with its ideas and have to rely on it recalculating on the fly once i deviate?
I've seen there are millions to choose from, anybody have tips or favourites to recommend?
using OSX if that makes any difference to updating softwares etc..

What mobile phone do you have?
As peteimprezza sez, are you using a smartphone? If so there's TomTom which is quite expensive at around £60, and CoPilot Live 8 at around £19 or so, both for iPhone. Not sure what's available for Android, sorry.
I've got a Garmin nuvi 1490T, you can set "via" points if you need to go on a certain route, but I'm sure most units will do that.
I chose this model because I wanted one that would allow me to use my phone handsfree.
got my iphone 3gs but i kind of assumed a dedicated unit would be better?
I have TomTom on my iPhone and it works just fine even without the special cradle. Both on the 3GS and now on the 4.
Highly recommended if a little pricey.
