On my home pc, I can do a Google search say for example Direct Line. When I click on the ligit link to their website I dont get taken to their site but some thing completely different.
If you try and click the back button you cant get back etc...
I've run scans on Microsft Essentials and Malwarebytes in safe mode and neither have found anything.
Is it a virus, is there anything else I can do to stop it happening?

Probably.
Check for the existence of a proxy server set in your web browser, for starters.
