Yes!
Can't think of any younger bands with the same legacy. The only alternative I guess would be Iron Maiden and their around they same age.
GnR?
Not much younger I know but I'm struggling.
and unleash the beach ball of doom on the audience 🙂
Rammstein would cover it with kittens and torch it first 🙂
If it was Rammstein that would be a 10' inflatable cock being passed round the crowd...
Kirk Hammett killed it on guitar tonight!
A massive chicken?
Somewhere at Glastonbury there will be a tent with a load of goons off their face listening to a bloke wearing a hat indoors put one record on after another, they will think this is awesome entertainment.
Meanwhile Mettalica do their thing....
From what I remember one of the band crowd surfs in a rubber dinghy when Rammstein play. Then they torch the place with a cleansing fire.
ninfan 🙂 on fire, or maybe a northwind laser cock 🙂

seen them 3 times, twice the keyboardist was in the boat, once the bass player

Would only ever work with a reformation of the Appetite line up, which will be never.
mikey 74 - How dare they tease with the beginning of "Welcome Home...". Oh, well.
to try and make up for it i could play you my rendition over skype if you like 😉
Aren't gnr a complete mess these days ?
Anyway metallica pulled it out of the bag in the end.
Give them credit....blokes even older than me being able to stay up late and play like that...forget Jimmy's inane comments.
So next year then.
Rammstein headline, with Motorhead in support.
They set the stage roof on fire.
Come on stage in armour on fire.
Send lead vocal out into audience in a boat (not on fire)
Open with with "Sonne" and a 10' tall snow white comes on stage and abuses members of the band, then shoots up some gold (watch the vid)
A group of yank bombers on route to Stan, having done loads of speed, mistake Glasto for Stan and drop naplam....
Rammstein shut it down in style and on fire 🙂
^feuer und frei^

Thanks for the offer but I can do that myself.
zwitter zwitter
never sing along to that in the company of germans when you haven't read the english translation of lyrics 🙂
I stuck with Metallica for two songs and thankfully switched over for 5 of The Pixie's . What a band .... F&ck Metallica...
Watching Lana Del Rey again. Her voice is ****ing amazing everyone!
The Pixies are s**t. Always have been, always will be.
Metallica aren't exactly my bag, but I thought that show was spot on.
mikey 74 remember father ted eurovision entry (well i'll just leave it at that as to what my attempt would've been like 😉
Taxi for johndoh…taxi for johndoh….someone grab that half pint of vodka from him before he does or says something stupid……….
Her voice is certainly amazing me, that's for sure - or rather it's amazing what can be done with overdubs and a decent compressor and auto tune/pro tools in the studio, her pitch was atrocious and she was so far out of key i thought it had to be intentional. Perhaps that's unfair as she did have the look of a terrified rabbit on stage so maybe nerves got the better of her 🙄
Off course it's easy for me to say that whilst hiding behind a keyboard but it was a very bad performance none the less and she'll be aware of it, poor lass.
.
I thought she looked bored.
Pixies.....a band I know I should like, but can't get on with.
The Pixies look like the Geography Department from my old school apart from the drummer. He is woodwork.
Good stuff though.
Enjoyed the Metallica, Trujillo is always great and I thought Hetfield was very restrained with the saying embarrassing stuff between songs. Now watching the Mogwai - fairly sure someone shouted "Play some Metallica" after their first tune. Quality.
I agree with Harry. Not my thing but really enjoyed it. That's what I like about Glastonbury. You end up watching stuff you wouldn't normally bother with and really quite enjoy it. I went from Metallica to Bryan Ferry. Brilliant.

Watched her first ever live TV appearance on Jules Holland a few years ago and she was really struggling with nerves. Not a fan, but glad for her if it was good.
Brian Ferry's voice has gone to pot, presume it's an age thing, he's lost most of his range. I'm a bit young for Roxy Music, but love him/them in a background sort of way. He's prob in his 70's or something so fair enouff.
I was surprised how good a reception Metallica got. They were excellent, really tight performance as ever. \m/
Just got in from a pub and football night so haven't seen any of Glastonbury tonight. Despite that, I know Pixies were far and away the best act of the night. End of.
I'm afraid Robert Plant or Goldfrapp took that honour, much as i like and admire the Pixes you really have to experience them at live gig to get the most out of them.
They were better than Metallica though……...
They were better than Metallica though……...
Not much of an achievement though. Of all the sofs surfing of past Glastos, I can't quite remember such a shit headliner.
"It's called Cyaniiiiiiiiiiiide."
At least they're good for the LOLz.
Ok,, Metallica good, pixies good but did anyone catch wolf Alice?? Damn good band. I saw them at our local a few weeks ago and they were shit hot and this afternoon they played a great set. She's very hot and plays a mean guitar.
Metallica, 1970's Black Sabbath wannabees and not never ever a patch.
Was very impressed with Metallica, and their reception.
I've seen them a few times over the years but not for a long long time, and to be honest I expected the worst.
Opening with Creeping Death a clear statement of intent and they carried the energy right the way through to Seek and Destroy. With the exception of Cyanide I loved every minute.
Just catching up with Goldfrapp now. Bbc started clip on utopia which is my favourite song. All good.
I'm watching Blondie (cos I'm old). They can still bash it out. 😀

The twitter stats on the bbc site (Mettalica 51% pixies 5% ) and general web chatter would suggest most disagree with you. End of.
(Not a myopic fan of either)
Twin Atlantic,MGMT and Clean Bandit have been the standout shows for me.
Since when were Kasabian legends????
opinions are like a$$holes, everyone's etc.etc.
after reading/hearing the guff spouted about metallica's set, i figured i'd check it out.
creeping death and for whom the bell tolls as openers.
effin' huuuuuge sound. hearing hetfield shouting 'glasto' repeadtedly might annoy some, but is having a gushy warm effect on me.
awesumz.
I was a huge Metallica fan back in the day.
Saw them live a lot between '88-'95 - they were always a superb band to watch.
It was with some trepidation I sat down and watched their 'Glasto!' set last night (which the Beeb missed the beginning of). TBH I thought they pulled it off - still pretty tight for a bunch of 50 year olds.
The bulk of their good material was up to '...And Justice For All' in 1988 so they themselves were a lot younger and more angry - just right for '14 year olds' as someone pointed out 😉
The 'black' album in 91 made them a lot more mainstream and it was obvious they'd play the very un-Metallica-like 'Nothing Else Matters' to probably the most mainstream crowd they've ever played to (apart from the Freddie Mercury tribute gig in Wembley in 92).
Considering '4 in 5' people wanted to offload their tickets when they heard 'tallica were headling the Sat, I think they proved they did something right as there looked like there were a few people watching at the end ie rammed.
To all their detractors if you don't like 'em fair enough. Don't say they're shit though as they're clearly not.
Each to their own...I think Elbow are dull beyond belief but acknowledge they are very good musicians.
They have a massive back catalogue and have shifted millions and changed 'metal' from a bunch of hairspray, leather-clad twunts into something much more honest, distilled and acceptable. Call it what you will...metal, rock, heavy, it has it's place at Glastonbury as much as any other genre and they've done more for it than any other band IMO in the last 30 years so good luck to 'em! 😈
Lars deffo need to lose the Francis Rossi 'do though!

Go Dolly! Not exactly a fan, but she's putting on a great show.
some serious rigging there.
