I'm in Glasgow for the night this week. Anywhere recommended for a beer and then some food. Staying at the Ibis near Kingston Bridge, so fairly central.
I know that it's not your quintessential Glasgow pub but I always liked Waxy O'Connors, the decor is a site to see. General pub grub.
Most Glasgow pubs will have a bouncer on the door. Make from that what you will. However curry in Glasgow is pretty much always superb.
Stereo is good but not been for a few years. From memory it's all vegan but makes a nice change. Got atmosphere as well.

are the ones I normally visit when I'm visiting head office.
I like the Smokin' Fox near Central Station. Not cheap but the beer is always good, its always busy. Not had the food but it looks great as its passing! If I'm in the Glasgow office for any periods of time its an at-least-once-a-week visit.
There's loads of nice places to eat and drink, is it the Ibis south of the river, or north, are you wanting to stay in the area, or go into the city, what's you're favourite meals, as there's tons of choices, Glasgow centre is basically a square with hundreds of options, not far from each other.
Pubs, same goes, you want sports bars, traditional, etc, loads of choice again, you might be best just wandering round
Waxy O'Connors promises much, but delivers so little! For a pub thats been designed to be so quirky and is so pretty inside, it has absolutely zero atmosphere.
Friday night? Could do worse than going to see some live music. <shamelessplug>I hear theres a half decent band on in King Tut's on Friday.

Alpen lodge (downstairs ) for drink
It's the Ibis south of the river ar Springfield Quay. Somewhere for a quiet no hassle pint early evening. Really like a curry but so often I've been disappointed. If there's a good one nearby, I'd maybe go for that
I'll be checking that out too @iainc next time I'm up 🙂 I've been to Chaakoo and Mowgli and they were good.
German beer? Brauhaus on Bothwell Street
Any other nation (plus German)? Bierhalle on Gordon Street
Karaoke hell but proper pub? Horseshoe on Drury Lane
Indy dive? Nice and Sleazys on Sauchiehall Street
Overpriced rock bar? Solid Rock on Hope Street
Really want an authentic Glasgow experience? Grand Ole Opry on Paisley Road West. Go in, have a laugh, but for ****s sake don't laugh when they fold the flags.

Depends what you after, If you want a curry then any of the recommendations above will see you right.
If you a central then I really like Drury Lane on well Drury Lane (opposite the Horseshoe Bar)
Staff are lovely, beer is great, brilliant selection of craft beer - try My Horse is Very Tired 😀 and the burgers are awesome.
Its not going to win any awards for decor and the toilets are an experience but it just a nice chilled place to spend a few hours drinking good beer.

And I was also very complimentary about the Glasgow curry scene so hardly bringing the place down. I was at a gig in Glasgow last Friday. Had a great time. Much better city than Edinburgh for live music.

I wouldn't judge a pub because it happened to have a bouncer standing outside, they're generally stopping any ruffians from entering which is a good thing.
As for recommendations, Stereo and Bierre Halle as already mentioned and also Tabac - all will have doormen/bouncers btw.
Howlin Wolf is my recommendation. Live blues music 7 nights a week. The bar is great as is the food. It's open until 3am and they serve food until 2am.

Another recommendation for the Howlin Wolf. It's a great place to spend some time. Food and drink are both good and the music is ace.

Where I live there are bouncers on the Co-op and the Tesco in the middle of a weekday.

Fun fact i once drunkenly escorted a pretty drunk Bradley from SClub7 to best kebab. Someone stole his hat, he gave chase, he came back wearing his hat. I didn't get the impression it had been given back... He was raging.

Never been to Best Kebab, that was the Strathy side and I tended to be fixated on getting to the Maggie for a Scooby Snack on the way home when I was in town.

Its perfectly situated to mingle student crossing the city, students falling out strathy union and ner'do'wells heading back on the late trains.
[Nostalgia]The one and only "fight" i have ever been involved with was a bunch of coked up chavs who thought we were taking the piss. I mean... We were taking the piss... But we didn't think they could hear us.
We were happy enough to walk away up cathedral street while they threw punches at us. I got a fat lip there was a few scuffles but ultimately they were absolutely out of it and we just left them to it. Then all back to birkbeck to carry on the night.

Did best kebab once back in uni days and we got thrown out because my mate was in such a state.

I can also recommend Pizza Crolla. Had a few late night dishes from there over the years.

Shutting the halt is just part and parcel of changing times but the fact they were then allowed to gut it... That was unbelievable.
Not many left like that. I loved it in there. As a fixie skidder with friends djing it was quite a big part of my Glasgow life.
Sorry to hear about the halt closing,used to go a lot in the 80s but since I have only been there once in the last 30 years I may be part of the problem.
I think the issue was more to do with changing neighboirhood.
From memory a few gigs had to be binned. They had some grief from neighbours etc rather than lack of customers. WEST gutted it and made it soulless and it didn't last long from memory by that time i had moved the Edinburgh.
