They wont win a single match and wont get a draw without the weather

Checked the TV, had to find a digi box to get the live coverage, dinner on beer open. Come On England if all goes well sport will be uninvented down here by the end of August.

Seems to be low down the news already

So the biggest question, Aussie TV with commentary or with the sound off and TMS over the top?

Warner not in is the other bit of news, wonder when he is going to get some game time to prepare?

hmm disaster has struck
The missus has vetoed the live coverage on the TV, is it streaming in Oz?

The locals are already complaining that the coverage (sky) has the score the wrong way round and speeds in mph.

And Cook WHY????

Well I got the tv back in time to see root rooted in the words of the missus.

Down before lunch is a good start for a team who can't bat bowl or catch..

98-2 @ lunch on a pitch thats looking good for the quicks and later for the spinners?

I'll take that.

Yeah, I'd give that session to Engerland, just... If Haddin had gloved that chance off Pietersen then it would've been Australia's... He did well to get to it but just dipped at the last moment 🙁

Trott will be loving this. Get in, get settled, accumulate.

KP? Well, who knows. We'll see glorious or daft and nothing in between, I'd wager!

Nothing it is Captain 🙂 KP looked nervous and out of sorts, never looked to be likely to stick around... Now to just winkle the other Saffa out 😉

its boom boom or bam bam with KP isn't it. Never mind, we have the run machine that is Ian Bell coming in now.

Not so good a position here. I always go with a minimum of 50 runs per wicket for a useful score in a test match. 100 per wicket is happy days.

We were looking ok at lunch being just off my benchmark rate above – back under now!

uwe-r. Not a bad rule of thumb, but 500 an innings is wishful. Duncan Fletcher set a target of 400 for the 2005 series as being their target first innings score, which more often than not meant someone getting a ton, he reckoned if you got 400 then you'd generally be in a strong position.

Cricket's not just about centurions, it's about partnerships - hopefully trotty can just bat and bat and let bell and Bairstow and Prior form partnerships along the way. If these 3 can average 60 or so per partnership, that'll put us close to 300 which is a solid base.

[edit - Arse!]

If someone drew a caricature of Siddle they'd do well to draw him like a Great White Shark, his big teeth and the way he screws his face up really make him look like one I reckon

anything over 300 will be good enough. Lets not forget that England's real prowess is bowling.

My 50 a wicket is the base level for the top order, i.e. first 4 batsman to post 200+, you then would expect things to tail off but with a half decent final score for the innings. We are 130 for 4 as I type which is poop but as ever a decent partnership could transform the look of the scoreboard.
