The war council scene at Dragonstone with Tyrion/Varys/Daenerys/Olenna should have been absolutely electric - but fell a little flat for me.
Diana Rigg still stole it, but it wasn't hard.
hadn't thought about that but you're right! I think that's the first time all Dany's allies have been on screen together? Yet it felt like the village fete committee handing out jobs! The war council scene at Dragonstone with Tyrion/Varys/Daenerys/Olenna should have been absolutely electric - but fell a little flat for me.
Yep it's rushed now but there's a lot of action to pack in! Trailer for next week looks ace, big ruck and FLAMING SWORD!!
I find any scene with Dany falls flat.
I think that's the first and last time all Dany's allies have been on screen together?
(possibly) FTFY
I wish they'd film a bit more of it outside during the day
That would destroy their CGI budget.
Back from my hols and all caught up! 🙂
Agree with most comments re Eurons radar and immortality...a bit silly, but all good fun. Looking forward to Jon meeting Danny next and Arya's continuing adventures.
As for the campfire scene in Ep 1....FFS! 😕
Was the fight scene filmed using the same techniques as Sin City, it was very cartoon esque with all the speeding up and slowing down.
Morbid fascination with the Greyworm has yet to be satisfied...

I guess you are referring to speed ramping / time remapping. Not really anything to do with Sin City. The Matrix was probably the first film that ripped the arse right out of it. John Woo was a big proponent of it during his HK days, I think Sam Pekinpah may even have done it in the Wild Bunch.

I was expecting a gratuitous scissoring scene ala Southpark but luckily we were spared that. I still think it's a silly thing to do to an army of trainee soldiers. Would limit their aggression, strength, muscular development etc and I imagine Greyworm would have a much more feminine voice?
I think it reminded me of sin city due to the lighting and general low level light in the whole shot.
The way the scene was portrayed was very cartoon esque imo.
The Matrix etc is more bullet time wide spacial shots with high clarity of what you are being wowed with.
Well funny when reek just jumped into the ocean like a coward. He'll be in it till the end now, I reckon, as an observer.
So... any other loose ends?
The Blackfish is still at large as he escaped from Riverun. & what happened to Edmure Tully?
Gendry went off on his boat.
Anything else?
The Blackfish is still at large as he escaped from Riverun
He did?
Gendry to pick up Reek in his little boat next week
ah yes sorry Jamie, I'm getting confused with the book. He did get killed in the Tv version. I don't think we actually saw his death though did we, didn't he just go back up the stairs after seeing Brienne and Podrick off?
There are 2 wolves left, is that right? Ghost and Nymeria.
didn't he just go back up the stairs after
Yes, but later on Jaime is told he died in battle.
As for wolves, yes. Nymeria we saw last episode as a wolf pack leader, and Ghost is chilling out at castle black (I think).
As an aside, Alt-Shift-X is a great source for all things GoT breakdowns and whatnot.

Well you could have explained yourself better

That's called speed ramping. Even if it happens within "bullet time" it's still speed raming / time remapping.

The vast majority of scenes in the Matrix take place at night in dimly lit interiors, the exception being the rooftop rescue sequence.
Not an episode for those who are disliking the time thing.. Though at real speeds we would still be waiting in season 8.
Anyway another stark in winterfell who doesn't want the big job, tyrion is not drinking or knowing things, the conquer the seven kingdoms is looking a little harder so I'm waiting for dragons to come play.
Nicely paced episode for me, waiting for Sir friendzone to make it back into the action
Somewhat amusing that the recipe for stoneskin cure is actually as simple as "pull it off, cover mess with goop".
Yep. I guess they are setting Sam up to become the GOAT of Maesters as he performed the supposedly impossible with basically zero hassle!
Feeling shortchanged with the off-camera & shortened battles, seeing as the justification for having 7 episodes not 10 was to spend more on each one... they'd better really pull out all the stops later!
The ebb and flow of war was nicely portrayed though & two of probably the nastiest, most bitter moments so far were well done (if uncomfortable!)
Third episode very good. 10/10 despite no boobs.
Lol. Didn't even notice that, guess that means the episode was pretty compelling! The only weak point was the DT/JS meeting, lacked tension of any sort despite her attempts to appear threatening! The scene with Cersei & Euron was way better.
Who would fall for this trap!?Third episode [...] no boobs.
...oh!
10/10 despite no boobs.
Cersei after knobbing her brother again, no?
Zokes: sorry that happened so fast I forgot and it was a side boob at most......
Liked it, best episode of this series so far.
Olena Tyrell gets to sum up Joffrey, Euron asks for relationship advice, and Samwell disgraces his gender by reading and following some instructions.
Ok...this Euron ninja fleet thing is getting a bit much now.
I keep turning around and expecting to see several hundred ships that weren't there a minute ago.
What has Bran Stark seen that upset Sansa? Got a bit weird. Good episode.
Her wedding to Ramsey?
I thought that was a great episode, quite a bit of dialogue to help set things up instead of a load of action scenes back to back which jump all over the place. Pleased to see much more Tyrion too.
Agree with the ninja fleet being a bit OTT.
Melisandre seemed to give Varys the willies when she revealed something about them dying in these foreign lands, as if he remembered something he'd forgotten....
Yeah the fleet thing is a bit crap but I guess necessary in the now time-condensed universe in order to weaken Daenerys' forces enough to make for any tension when it comes to the pre-Night King battles. I'm not a big fan of the Euron character either, having such an overdone Blackadder-esque character in GoT is a bit too jarring IMO.
Presumably it wouldn't take long for the dragons to fly to Casterly Rock and burn the siege army + Euron's fleet, seems too easy though? I think until one of the dragons is killed it will still seem too one-sided so unless they've relocated some of the ballistas from King's Landing then maybe Euron produces the Dragonbinder at Casterly Rock?
At least Tyrion is off the hook for Joffrey's murder.
Also, no Hound again? Boo!
I was really hoping for a Ayra and Hound reunion. Best double act going.
You see, if I was about to attack a big castle, i'd send a few spies to make sure that most of the occupants don't decide to bugger off somewhere else. It's not going to plan for Tyrion.
Bronn is back, not speaking yet
Now Jamie knows it was not Tyrion who killed his son, it sews the seed for the inevitable queenslayer scene, despite his protestations
Well there is a trailer out... one thing is they got the gold, they havn't paid the iron bank yet. Few dragons might change things, maybe Jon could ride one
Melisandre seemed to give Varys the willies when she revealed something about them dying in these foreign lands, as if he remembered something he'd forgotten....
There was something there. Not covered by any of the recaps so must be something yet to be revealed about his past?
Complete lack of reconnaissance is doing for Dany and Tyrion. Entire Lannister army on the move and they've got no-one on the ground to see them coming. I suppose it demonstrates how isolated they are - they're an overseas force with no-one on the ground.
Has Varys retained none of his network of 'little birds'? Could they not send the dragons out like a few SR-71's doing high altitude recon runs?
give Varys the willies
Bit insensitive, considering.
Bit insensitive, considering.
😆
Really enjoyed that last night but after having a good think about it it cant be just luck in the Lanister favour can it.
Heres a question a leak/mole IS Tyrion playing the bloods thicker than role, just seems funny that both plans haven't gone well for blondie. will Sir Friendzone( love this) come back into the fold and sort this problem out ? Is varys up to little birding ? food for thought
Here's a thought: Melisandre having lost her mojo a while back equates Dany and Snow to fire and ice. The red herring speaks again.
I also don't like how they have made Tyrion suddenly a bit stupid when it comes to his strategising. As above, he learned from The Spider, so would have surely sent out scouting parties to see what they were running into?
Anyway, I really don't mind who wins now. As long as certain % of my fav characters survive I am fine with any outcome.
I was upset when Ramsey died, tho.
Now Jamie knows it was not Tyrion who killed his son....
To be honest, I've known for quite a while now.
As long as certain % of my fav characters survive I am fine with any outcome.
0% seems the most likely.
A better episode I thought. I'd agree with all of the above, everything's happening faster than the speed of logic. But hey, they are obviously priming it for a big finale and the pieces need to be shuffled into place.
Of the major characters in Danaerys' council I think Varys is the only one who could plausibly be a mole. I think the red lady's remark was that he would die there - implying she knows the where and how of his death?
- implying she knows the where and how of his death?
In the study via the vagina demon.
In the study via the vagina demon.
Miss Scarlett and Professor No-Plums?
Mrs White and Colonel Bastard look on aghast.
Zero chance of Tyrion or Varys being moles IMO, of all the characters they have the most altruistic motives with no divided loyalties. I think they've (Tyrion especially) have simply underestimated Cersei, which they'll be keen not to do again, however there is still the secret dragon killing ballista so still scope for it to get worse before it gets better for them!
0% seems the most likely.
The undead kill them all.
The end.
I wouldn't over-think it TBH.
They just have to turn what looked like an easy win into a battle against the odds for the purposes of dramatic tension.
