i was later, as it was all dying out - college years 97-99, just at the end of the rockstation having jam-nights. the swan was a trendy-kids venue by my time - can't think of anywhere else (aside from the aberration that was the rock cafe 2000), but then i spent most of the time holed up in the rock, chequers, talbot or mitre trying to scrape enough pennies together for a pint back then. still haven't been to a gig at katie's, by all accounts that's pretty good..

oh, i didn't know 'til the other month that JBs wasn't the Original JBs - went to see the levellers with some older folk and was regaled with stories of the Old Times.. tis a crying shame the place is going, but's what you get for tribute bands i s'pose

Yep - the old JB's (behind Pathfinder - just down from the Vic) was great. Saw a load of bands there on the Friday nights - £3.00 in for the likes of Ride, Levs, Jesus Jones, BTTP, Manics, Senser, Chumbas, Senser, Stone Roses, Blur...

We were spoilt round here, remember seeing Nirvana supporting Tad/Mudhoney at Edwards...radiohead at Kiddi Market Tavern, New Model Army 8) 8) everywhere...

Still - the Talbot brings back memories. Got banned from there for walking down the back bit with clogs on - broke their new tiles.

You still local?

the likes of Ride, Levs, Jesus Jones, BTTP, Manics, Senser, Chumbas, Senser, Stone Roses, Blur...

vehement about Senser eh?
in fairness, i was too clueless about music back then to really look around me, it's only since moving back up here i've started gigging regularly (i'm up in Quarry Bank - jewel of Brierley Hill's crown)
being an organiser type, a plug for the sake of shameless plugs Brum Gig Group

i'm really hoping JBs books someone worth seeing before it shuts, it needs a proper send off, the only thing i'd even remotely want to see at the mo is neill buchannen's Marseille, just because it's him, but they sound shite. Fingers crossed for terrorvision needing money soon, their first farewell gig there's such a fond memory

I am out of touch nowadays mate...music begins and ends with Johnny Cash these days for me.

Agree about JBs though. Only ever went to the new place once - just after it opened. I ride past every day on the way to work and see the posters, it's all tribute/cover bands or heavy metal.

If anyone decent plays, Ill buy you a can of Red Stripe at the bar!

winner! the cans of red stripe are still going strong! the levellers was the first time i'd been since the smoking ban - thought they'd had a fancy olde worlde roof put in, but in hindsight it was pobably just the first time i'd been able to see that far. nowhere's got the dinge as good as the Bs..

Probably the first tune that I thought was brilliant. Not heard it in years. I hope it still is.

seeing the KLF reminded me of the one-off they did with extreme noise terror on the brits and offended lots of people and finished with the statement "the KLF have left the music industry" having just emptied an ak 47 full of blanks at all the music journo darlings

3AM eternal Death mix if memory serves me correctly

you just don't get metalists like that anymore 😥

and Shine On - another great call

djglover - I think the word "indie" in the thread title should have given you a clue; perhaps you want to start your own moshpit?

Moshpit....did I hear some of my favorite words?

I bet djglover'll be too young to and wimpy to know a proper moshpit if it stood on his face 😆
