Have we reached Peak Ads on STW now? I know they need to make money an' all, but the in-line ads, rolling banners and pop-ups inviting me to subscribe are getting totally out of control  - definitely reduces my interest in coming to the forum (which may of course be another motivation).

Password reset isn't working, just sticks you in a loop of enter your email if you have forgotten your password, sends you am email which take you back to the enter email if you have forgotten page

I did.  I assumed it was a glitch which was quickly rectified.  Has it done it since?

Well almost 48 hours now since I seen the subscription slide. Anyone else noticed it seems to have disappeared!

1400 Friday to 1400 Saturday - 432 posts on the bike forum in comparison to a daily average in April last year of 748. Let's see how the next few days even out the average.

nope it's still there. still loading wsdi.js. still loading <div id="wsdi-slide_in>. still re-shows if you scroll right to the end (which is what you have to do to get the X button to shut it up.

edit: and I just made it create a wdsi-on_hide cookie (time to hack it - ah expiry now set to 3 days by default - /me tries using devtools to set expiry year to 2038 😉 )

</div>

On firefox on Linux, if you try to scroll right to the end it jumps back up to the beginning.

Kind of annoying if there are too many posts on the page as you can't post a message except with lots of messing around (or perhaps wait until the topic starts a new page?).

It's just a variant on the usual pasting formatted stuff bug, but slightly different to usual and I thought kind of interesting:

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/raspberry-pi-do-i-need-one/#post-9942693

Usually when you edit a post you can delete the spurious <span> crap, but in that case it all looks just fine in the edit box. As mentioned in the post I C&P via another editor to fix it.

edit: and let's just add another bug report while we're at it - I tried to give a direct link to the post, but it seems the forum in its wisdom removes the #post-9942693 at the end of the URL (which is still visible in the edit box 😡) the link should be
https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/raspberry-pi-do-i-need-one/#post-9942693
(relying on the forum ignoring URLs which aren't at the start of the line)

I mean honestly these are really simple things to fix, I'm thinking they probably could have been done in the time spent posing for photos with beers, let alone the time spent adding a pop up nobody wants.

Video url only appears to work when you hit return before you hit submit, doesn’t seem a necessary step.

I presume favourites is still unsolved. Is there a plan to reinstate the favourites that users have saved?  If not this is a real pity as I know I save lots of useful threads that I wanted to revisit.

Is there a bug count that is being worked on daily? Just out of interest any figures on this you would share to users?

Apparently it's time for me to buy another copy of the mag. I'm going to keep the subscription one nice and unused and just read the other 17 I seem to have unwittingly bought. Off to buy another copy now, for some reason. No idea why, I just feel the urge again this morning.

Contempt: that thing  STW has for its customers and unpaid content providers.

More than the technical issues, it's that contempt that will drive folk away .

The ''Buy Issue 118" banner is back and I can't get rid of it.

I have issue 118. I'll  probably read everything in it, then read some bits again when they're on here.

What more do you want?

Can anyone else use their middle mouse button to open a link in a new tab? This continues to work on other sites and used to work here but no longer does...

How do I embed a video these days? Do I have to write forumy code or whatever it is?

edit: clearly not then... maybe the forum help section needs updating. Or I do.

round and round and round we go. I wonder how many times we can post the same things before we get fed up and just put up with how crap it all is... (seems to be the project plan)

I'd dearly love to see a count of how many people have used the "Friends" function or the Block function in the messaging system.

Just paste the link

That's not what the forum help page says, it didn't say it when I tried posting a video 6 weeks ago. Which took four attempts. It'd take no more than two minutes to update the forum help so that it says what you're supposed to do - please could someone fix that today?

Thanks Drac. How come there's something intuitive about the updated forum? 😉 Except that it's not really obvious, given that you need to use the menu to embed an image. Hiding in plain sight.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be snarky, but it's not very obvious and there doesn't seem to be a clear way of finding out.

Has anyone considered putting together a quick start guide to the forum and stickying it for reference as an interim step. You could link it to the existing 'forum help' link as well.

Oh, did something change there? I'm sure the first thing I did when the "new" forum came online was to block everyone from sending me PMs.  Glad I double checked.  Now re-blocked.

Just like on that South Park ep... you have 0 friends

🤣

you clearly don't understand the way things work around here - they're too busy adding new features we hadn't realised we wanted to be wasting time on that sort of thing

OK, so I'm curious why you're so bothered about people sending you messages? People occasionally message me on here and it's kind of useful - if you have no friends you probably won't get any messages.

Bit harsh.

They've obviously hit the go switch on something that's turned out to be an absolute bag'o'shyte and now are bogged down without knowing how to extricate the situation.

I feel kind of sorry for the STW team, TBH...

Just several cases (on many forums, this being one of them) where I post something to a thread, but then people (that presumably don't understand the concept of forums?) reply to me by direct message. Reply to the forum. That what it's there for. That way more people might respond.

if you have no friends you probably won’t get any messages.

I definitely won't get any now cos I just changed the settings 😉

Can't see any way to turn off the friend function though.
