Am I right in thinking one cannot see when someone joined the forum now?

i.e Nothing in profile like 'joined xxx'?

Also, did I miss the announcement that the forum was now running off Mark's 3G connection?

Wouldn’t want to put off the journalists, trolls and spammers.

I just noticed that.

...and really sticks a flagpole in exactly where this forum is at from a technical point of view.

I wonder if it is Y2K ready as well?

For some inexplicable reason the Singletrack icon in my bookmarks has faded.

there is no upside to this new forum, none, zilch, zip, diddly squat, nought. It makes the whole experience of singletrackworld a painful frustrating pain in the proverbial arse!

It’s working fine for me, but it’s obviously frustrating a lot of people, because the place feels so quiet. It’s like there’s been a big (and medium sized) hitter cull. I’d blame the sunshine, but it’s been getting like it over the last few weeks.

please don’t die STW forum 😢

No cull but some hitters have chosen to leave.

This makes me sad. I hope the place recovers, or they come back. Functionality seems pretty good now.

lol, just make sure you're the author of a thread, paste anything into a text editor first, you are wearing reading glasses and your window isn't too narrow or the text is too big because you can't find your reading glasses

Thought I'd try viewing the forum on my phone and good news is there's no redirects after clicking 10 pages so that's a result!

What isn't good is the advert that pops up below the address bar then stays there while you scroll up and down.  Very intrusive and takes up a large chunk of the useable screen. So that's still a no for the mobile version for me.

& I still don't know how to put rolley eyes & devils smiley faces on, as well as faces with sunglasses on & all those others that I had so long ago I can't remember them all.

I wish someone would explain instead of showing off by putting a load of them on.

*as surely as shit is shit that the next predictable poster will*

You need a device with a smart keyboard that has emoticons.

I’m pretty sure you’ve been told that and your response was you use a laptop.

😕 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is it not a load of characters mashed together? Like ; - and a closing bracket without spaces between the 3 characters should be a winking face...;-)

I can't remember anyone saying anything to the effect that emojis don't/wouldn't work on a laptop.

But as usual, thanks for your 'help' anyway.

Assuming you're on Win10, you just use the built-in software keyboard. You activate it by pressing the keyboard icon in the Windows taskbar in the lower-right corner.

If you don't see the keyboard...

On a Mac press command+control+space.

I don't have a keyboard icon in the taskbar - but having enabled it with a registry hack it now works using WIN + ;

So chuffed as i am that the pop ups and redirects have gone, does everyone with a 'p' get this many ads? This is just me scrolling down this page. Feels like they are pushing for that £1.50!!

I believe there might actually be some post's between the ads, but it's giving me a headache trying to read them 😣

Every forum does that. Haven't you ever interneted before?Just pick a forum at random and join, notice how you will be greeted by a barrage of embedded adverts  and (if you're lucky) pop-ups. The whole "pay me to stop spamming you with horribly invasive and annoying ads" forum business model is well established in forum land. You're fortunate that you're even allowed to login in here and read the comments, internets are a finite resource and are hugely expensive, and since this forum is just a tiny cog in a much larger machine I'll warn you that such ungrateful behaviour in future will lead to a severe bollocking from a stealth mod.

Know your place, marketing bot.

What's a 'stealth mod'?

What have they done?

Do you know any of their secret signs?

You know, if I were a member of a club where I hated the club, hated the assistants, hated the staff, hated the owners, and yet remained a member, I'd start to question my own sanity.

...and if I were a bouncer at the club, but I didn't get paid, had to cover for my boss who does but rarely provides any info to his punters, and enjoyed it so much that about the most positive I could be towards punters' questions was disdainful, I'd probably think my sanity was lapsing too.

#SnarkSnark

As has been said many times, most of the ill will that now permeates has been caused not by the botched upgrade itself, but the complete information vacuum that ensued. For the most part I'd say the STW members are an astonishingly patient customer base, and that's the only reason most of the people are still here. But, if we want to go back to the pub analogy, we all know of once vibrant venues that got done up, a few key regulars got the hump and left, and slowly as the atmosphere left with them, so too did everyone else.

The free one I set up doesn't have any ads at all. And it's FREE. Only problem is it has no members 😆
