Ah. Right-click to Paste doesn't work on desktop either, though CTRL-V does.

What an absolute crock of shit this is ffs...

Quoting just takes you to the top of the last page without actually posting the message you just typed including any quotes - which don't show up in the text box either despite spacing out the quoted text as if they are there...

edit - and taking 20-30s to post (and edit) even being on an 80+ connection (gotta love the Officers Mess :rolf: )

Many of us work in IT/release management/testing/something computery.

I know nothing though of forum software, so can someone explain what's causing any changes to be such a bit of a mess to deploy? Aside from the limited resource, because surely testing in some form is available before droppping into live?

EDIT: Amusing auto-change of original phrase to "bit of a mess" 🙂

I think they just uploaded a forum template and spunked it on us.

such a shame after years of building a support base and advertising network that it could all be undone overnight because of a clear lack of testing

It’s awful - it makes no sense at all and if it isn’t fixed soon people will leave in droves.

One thing I’m sure that STW knows is that the “favourites” in your profile are now all gone? Is that so thing we may get back please??

Seems to me that the issue is that it's copying formatting as well as text.  I appreciate this is a shit workaround, but if you C&P in and out of Notepad first, it strips the formatting and quoting works.

This has been a massive change behind the scenes, I'm sure it'll all get sorted soon.  Whilst appearing simple, the old forum was a beast under the hood.  Getting to where we are now whilst not ideal was a huge undertaking.  For all the teething issues, we're in a far better place than we were in terms of maintenance and potential for upgrades.

Have now read the thread.
Back to old classic "alpha test in the live environment" philosophy

Just spotted, there's a "clear formatting" button too.  Move the cursor into the pasted text and hit that, seems to work.

I think you have to select ALL the pasted text?

Now I confess I'm more likely to be found under a landrover with a hammer than compiling some software code... But I know that my very smart little brother who wrangles sql servers for Marks & Spencer has a copy of a live database that he can completely shag up with his mangled code for testing before being let loose on the real deal. Is that really not an option here? Everything is borked!

And now I'm going to edit so everyone can see me looking rad!

And the submit button doesn't work properly. And it takes me to post #1 mot last post etc etc. Properly borked

Ok I've tried multiple times to 'unsubscribe', from this thread after anot seeing that the follow up by email box is ticked automatically. I'm still getting spammed.

My inbox is getting polluted by shite, how do I stop this? Honestly this is an absolutely cluster ****.

Not sure what everyone is complaining about. It's all fine and working 100%.

I think Mark and co can have a beer and a good night sleep content in a job well done. They had me going with that aborted effort before Christmas, but looks like I was worried unnecessarily.

Just looked on mobile for first time.

The massive blurred avatars for every edit are a brilliant addition to the forum. Just the improvement this place needed.

Can somebody explain why the avatars fill my entire screen on every post by an author that has one? BlackBerry mobile browser. It was bad before, what with no text scaling, but now it's unreadable.

Finally. Someone who realises how much better the forum is now. I imagine like myself you will be subscribing now all the promised fixes have been implemented?

Thats just to keep everyone honest.

*Actually that's not a bad thing, it will the political threads from descending into an edited post-fest and the context going out of the window.

** The preview button shows the post without all of the HTML code. I used the remove format button too.

And that edit changed my Tag

* And that edit I unchecked the "Keep a log of this edit" box and it didn't add another avatar and edit history.

Well, at least the green is darker and I can see what the text sez!
No buttons showing above the comments box for quote, image, video, etc on my iPad, or emoticons either, and I’m not keen on the fact that the text I see in the comments box is in badly spaced typewriter font.

I have a "release" of database related software next week (hopefully if we're on schedule). We plan to do pre-beta testing in a sandbox for a week or so before replacing the existing system. That's kind of standard practice for anything other than internet forum software apparently.

Mind you I'm not having any problem at all with quoting, because the only option I have is to manually add the BB code tags - none of the nice buttons as shown in simon's pic here, and the "reply" button does nothing for me. I have a "preview" button, but that also does nothing (I'm on Chrome on Windows BTW in case anybody useful is reading, and I turned off STW Extension Tools in case that was breaking it)
