Now we have some actual racing it seems Red Bull are getting worried that Merc and McLarens front wings are getting a bit too flexy (like what there’s is!).

The bloody cheek of that team!! 🤬🤬

Sports Illustrated are running the "Newey to Ferrari" story, quoting BusinessF1 magazine as the source, but that's pay walled...

BusinessF1? Isn’t that the same source as the Horner allegations - which seem to have been well and truly brushed under the carpet.

****ter is strangely silent on it too.

Actually, you can preview part of the June edition of the magazine but I have no idea how credible Business F1 is.....

Alpine using RBPT engines would be funny, complete 180 on the Renault/Red Bull relationship from the Vettel years.

LOL at the last comment on this predictably amusing Mansell interview:

“Nice balanced answers as always from Nigel, I see the chips on both his shoulders are still there!”

Did I see you lift that rug?

What rug? (hides broom behind back)

”Briatore added more titles with Fernando Alonso in the mid-noughties, before vacating his position in 2009 and taking some more time out of F1.”

Surprisingly little mention of why he took some time away from F1 in that article! Andrew Benson at the BBC was able to write up the same story without touching the carpet or broom once. I've noticed that he's been very principled about mentioned Christian Horner's current difficulties as much as possible too, which is the kind if journalism I can get behind!

I remember an (unconfirmed) story about Tom Walkinshaw taking offence at something written by a journalist and grabbing the guy by the throat and hanging him out over the pit wall with cars racing past behind him. If that's true, at least Walkinshaw was honest, if a little old fashioned. Most team principals would just tell their PR people to ghost any journo who stepped out of line. I'm pretty sure that Flavio would bankrupt them with lawsuits so most of them probably just don't want the hassle.

I think Aston Martin would tick a lot of boxes for Newey: Honda engine, developing team with good budget, near his house.

I'll wait till I see a photo of him walking in the front door with his 'new school' sandwich box and satchel!

Is there only Haas he's not been linked with!?

I don't think Newey fits with Gene Haas's business model.

Interesting P1 and P2, Verstappen on the back foot again so expecting him to take pole and sail off into the sunset on Sunday

Woody's going to be copying Hamilton's homework again and end up ahead.  Don't know what he's going to cope next season.

Lando and Max are both operating currently on a different level to the rest of the field.

So excited for the race today. If Norris can beat Verstappen into the first corner then he's gonna have a great chance at a win, who knew that this season might be exciting?!

Problem for Norris is if Max gets a tow down to the first corner.

Russell doesn’t have race pace and is gifting the win to Max. He formed a train at the start and is doing so again.

And Perez - I mean WTF. Scrapping for a single point while Max romps away at the front. Just hoof him to Indycar.

Woody shoots himself in the foot by battling with Lando when he should have  just let him go. Poor race craft all race.

Why is Perez still in F1?

And why on earth isn’t that a penalty for Carlos after passing Charles, and only completing the move off the track.

I'm on the fence with this, the Mclaren is quicker but perhaps not so much that he should just wave him past? 🤷🏻‍♂️  Overtakes aren't the easiest at that circuit and you never know, keeping Lando in the dirty air for a few laps might cause enough tyre deg to mess up his strategy.

Also from a purely selfish spectator POV, it's a lot more entertaining when people actually try and defend. I really enjoyed that battle for second place tbh.

True but George isn’t good enough to keep lando behind for long enough to cause any meaningful degradation.

It's the car, George is at least as good as Lando.

But George only cares about himself and beating Lewis. The only time he wants to work as a team is if it benefits him. If he'd let Lando go there was a better chance he'd have kept Lewis behind and held on to third.

He doesn't seem to have that holistic view of a race that the very best F1 drivers have.

He was even questioning why Lewis didn't defend Lando...

He lost the podium because he ran the hard compound for the final stint.

Yeah the same tyre choice did for Leclerc as well. It was very obviously the wrong tyre for Barcelona.

But you're saying GR doesn't help unless it benefits him, then giving an example of Hamilton not helping George? 🙂

And what self respecting driver is going out of their way to help a team mate anyway? Even in this same race Carlos nearly took his team mates front wing off!  It's every driver for themselves!

On another note:

and there's also a rumour from L'Equipe that Carlos will go to Alpine (and L'Equipe were correct about Gasly resigning today...).

So happy that Stroll is confirmed to keep his seat for next year. Maybe next year will be his year to get to grips with this whole F1 thing.
