Get yourself down to a Jaguar dealer and snap up an I-Pace, just won 2019 World Car of the Year, 2019 World Car Design of the Year and 2019 World Green Car.

'Breaking news from the New York International Auto Show: the World Car of the Year jury has just announced that the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE is now officially the best car in the world!'

Dont bother waiting for the Audi eTron (less range and performance than I-Pace), snap one of these Jags up first.

Or, y'know, just don't buy a new car. Walk or cycle instead.

If you're going to get a car, get a Jag.
'Cos there's room in the back for, well, almost anything, really.

But what should I do with the now redundant 'World Car of the Year 2018" that I impulse bought last year?

My Volvo V50* was awarded the “Goldenes Lenkrad” (Golden Steering-wheel), a trophy instituted by the German paper “Bild am Sonntag” - stitch that! 🙂

*Not necessarily my ACTUAL V50, but I presume one very similar to it.

Will one of those Jags pull a caravan to the West coast of Scotland loaded with bikes & sea fishing gear without stopping every hour for 2 hours to recharge?
Thought not.

2019 World Green Car is an SUV. So it uses more energy per mile than any normal car format EV. And it costs more to buy than any mass market EV that isn't made by Tesla. It might be a great car in other ways but this is a worrying signal about what these judges see as "green".

Pffft, my car won Best Tow Car, Best Winter car, Best Family car and best Estate car.*

Moar wins.

And it's red.**

Red is faster than green. #science_fact

Are you prepared to walk or ride fifteen miles each way to work and back?
And I’m not cycling thirty miles to Bristol for a concert, either.

What’s happening? I only left work a few hours ago. How’ve they moved everything 12 miles further away in such a short timeframe?

For a spot of uglies-bumping, maybe. Not for work though (especially at 40 miles each way)

How can it be anything of the year 2019? It's April, we still have over 7 months of 2019 to go.

If you want to charge it at home and you don't have a access to anything other than domestic plugs, it'll take 24hours...

Practical.

Buying a 2nd hand car, any car, is greener than buying a new one.....

If you're buying £64k car I reckon you can afford £200 for a charger.

The issue in Dunblane is that so many folk in some areas have electickery cars that the underlying grid can't cope. Mucho upgrade needed.

Assuming everywhere you go also has a charger

Or you could use the 100kV chargers that Jaguar say will charge it in 45 minutes.

How many are in the UK? None.

Practical x2

And away we go.

You don't have to charge for every journey.

Yes nil they've not installed any yet.

It a miracle petrol took off but luckily garages already existed before they were invited.

I don't think you realise just how good this car must be.

How do you know? You are making some hideous assumptions there

Yes, when we move soon my commute will be 18 miles each way. I'll have to use an ebike because of my MS so it's not quite as eco friendly as it could be but I don't have any choice in that one. I only go into the office 2 or 3 times a week and when it's really cold I'll probably bike to the train station but I'm still going to try to do it as much as I can, whilst I can.

Statistically there is a tiny minority who would need to charge for every journey, it's not really a hideous assumption it's a fairly good guess and more than likely be true.

It doesn’t matter what car you drive - you could drive a 5 litre supercharged Range Rover (like I briefly did) and swap it for a Prius and it won’t make a blind bit of difference unless we all drive LESS. Walk, cycle, get a bus or a train. Then you can have whatever car you want and just use it for the pleasure of driving on the rare occasion you do drive...

Is it knackers. Nor is it likely to be true all the time. Situations change, daily.

I really just wanted to put a counterpoint to the daft opening post that looks like it must be sponsored it's so partisan.

Real road tests are showing 150 - 200 mile range from a single charge, that far exceeds the average UK journey. Or are you assuming something different?

Nor is it likely to be true all the time.

Well course it's not true all the time but it's far more accurate than every trip requires a recharge.

I think it depends where you start from…

Do you mean 100kW (not kV)?

Towing capacity is only 750kg so going to have to be a small caravan.
