Football matches are being cancelled left, right, and centre, and yet rugby matches all seem to be going ahead ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

A case of MTFU for the footballers?

I thought someone would say that hehehe. I have noticed a few rugby games have been called off. However, it seems that they have done everything they can to keep them going, even if it means switching the game to tomorrow. A few have even been moved to a different venue.

I watched Racing Metro vs Saracens last night.

Pitch was covered in snow and it was snowing heavily. You could barely see the ball. THere were guys with what looked like leaf blowers marching up and down the touchlines blowing the fresh snow off the lines.

No-one was wearing tights, or gloves (or scarves).

Roy Keane would've been impressed ๐Ÿ™‚

big difference is that football is played with the ball on the floor (at least Cloughy's way does) whereas in rugby the ball is mainly off the floor.

That said, what's with these players in snoods and neckwarmers about. I do miss pitches covered in snow and orange balls.

Premier league games are being called off for the saftey of fans, basically, far more people travel to football than rugby...

Its mostly not the players, its the condtions for the fans, lots of ungritted paths and roads. Liverpool game is off because of not enough police.

Footballers tend to be in peak physical condition, and are built for speed and agility, therefore don't have a load of fayt to protect them from the cold. Racehorses V Carthorses. I notice it's mostly the 'overseas' players wearing gloves and that. Don't blame them; if your physiology is suited to a warm climate, sub-zero temperatures must be bloody awful to deal with. Likewise, northern European players tend not to deal with heat that well.

Another significant difference with football matches, is that crowds tend to be much larger, speshly at the top level. How many go to the average rugby match? Decisions to postpone games are often little to do with the state of the pitches, and more to do with tens of thousands of fans going to and from the grounds, when transport systems are already compromised. Quite often it's the decision of the local authorities and the police, not the clubs. Having potentially thousands of extra vehicles on the roads isn't something the authorities really want to have to deal with, speshly when the emergency services are already stretched.

There are also a lot more football matches going on each weekend than rugby, because football is the superior and far more popular sport. I'd be interested in seeing the percentage of postponed games for each sports. Other sports have also been affected by the weather.

Refuses to get stuck in this time but the decision is taken by referees not the players.

The fact the Effinchafing thinks one sport is superior to another says it all for me.

Football as a sport is the beautiful game.

Football as it's played and administered nowadays is rotten and tainted.

My moneys on the rugby players, 15 vs 11 is good odds normally and they are all big lads, less confident if the footballers call up Joey Barton, Vinnie Jones and Terry Butcher though

Football superior?

Just like 'Laaaandaaaan' is so self evidently the singular-most important place on Earth......

The great thing about soccer (football was, is & remains a term for many types of ball sport) is that it keeps the ignorant away from rugby football.

No but it is though DD; it's popularity proves this. Footy is better because it's a game that can be played by people of varied physical types, whereas rugby is more a game for big lumps. I'm right, and you know i'm right.

Deep down, in the deepest recesses of your soul, you know I'm right.

Have you seen the physical condition of a top level rugby player? Theres some backs in the top flight weighing 14-15 stone (and more) and able to sprint sub 11s 100m. They're big guys, but very little fat on them. I'll bet most are just as fit as any premiership footballer. Muscle is better for warding off the knocks than flab.

One of the great claims of rugby is that there is a position for everybody regardless of body shape/size. Contrast that to wendyball where it appears the vital requirement is to be a little light on your loafers - all the better to fall over with..... ๐Ÿ˜›

I think most the football games have been called off due to spectator safety rather than the players. Least thats the excuse being thrown around. I do wonder though, how much of is down to the clubs not wanting their investments injured.

for every 14-15st sub 11s 100m runner, there's also a 19st bloke whose sole job appears to be arriving late at every breakdown and giving away a penalty ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll be in the snow at Gloucester tomorrow. We can expect near capacity crowds of 17k in the next two games and so far they are not called off.

Fred's never been to a soccer match in his life, just as he doesn't really ride a bike - difficult to do either of those things without leaving the Peckham tower block flat he shares with his brother Rodney & his Uncle Albert... ๐Ÿ˜›

Obvious why Rugby doesn't get called off, the spectators can get there in their Range Rovers and Discovery's.

How ever the football supporting oiks have to rely on public transport which as we all know fails at the first sign on bad weather

Pete - nope, West Terrace for me! Cover's are on, but so far no mention match possibly being called off.

As for rugby fans going to matches in their posh range rovers - true to some extent but my team has a largely traditional working class fan base.

I am a Gloucester boy born and bred though and can't say I consider myself middle class. I have it on good authority that theres a good chunk of the Worcester players in Chelt too.

Used to be a season ticket holder, but something got in the way of that. Women and expensive holidays! Might have to renew for next season. You know what the something interesting is on boxing day? Hmmm tickets still available isn't there?
