Out this afternoon, was making my way down a hard frozen Neve slope with nought but me 4 season boots to stamp edges with, was just thinking what consternation it would cause on STW that I didn't have ice axe, crampons and a Whillans Box, when this, can anyone guess where it is?:[IMG] [/IMG]

To be honest, I'm more wondering why one earth you're wearing 4 season boots for a stroll in the sunshine, I'd have been in trainers.

Ha, I love my old Scarpa Dru, even wore them a few weeks ago on the Bernia Ridge in Spain, when most people wear trainers and climbing shoes. These are they:

I did have a pr of Inov8 Terroc in the car, but it was freezing cold (-6 on the car dash) so I thought my feet would be freezing in the trainers. also spoke to a couple of old boys on their way down who claimed that people were turning back above the bit in the pic above (might have just been them). But yeah, I wear full on high cuff semi rigid mountain boots for most of the winter, always have done, it's just what I prefer and I was glad of them today. I do feel self conscious in big boots (other than when it's full on), so try and buy boots that don't look OTT which is getting more and more difficult.

Been a few slips on Melmerby Scar earlier this week as someone else had noticed on this thread. Not seen it happen before at that site before.

I know it's meant in jest, but footwear choice does make a big difference, I'm talking about that other thread. u can walk confidently down an exposed slab in rigid boots or shuffle down it in wrong footwear. You can walk confidently down steep hard frozen neve in big boots or shuffle down it in wrong footwear.
