[#9397891]

Just spotted "Jaws - The Revenge" is on.

Jaws is a classic (8.0 on IMDB). "Jaws - The Revenge" is toss (2.9)

Does anything beat this for the widest gap between the best of a franchise and the worst?

Empire Strikes Back to The Phantom Menace? Highlander to Highlander: The Source?

Fast and Furious, all were pretty shite but the distinction between actual shite and just shite is moot.

Starship Troopers (7.2) vs the straight-to-video sequel you probably didn't even know existed, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (3.5)
... was close, but Jaws still winning.

The Godfather Part III was nominated for 7 Oscars and scores 7.6 on IMDB, so generally considered to be OK.

Get Carter and Get Carter.
The Wicker Man and The Wicker Man.

But they're just remakes, sooooo Carry On Up The Khyber and Carry On England, or Emmannuelle.

I've seen it, it's really really appalling - it loses all the subtext, 90% of the budget and any of the original cast with talent - poor old Casper Van Diem stays on.

Worse still, there's a third...

And a animated series...

And two animated films.

From Dusk to Dawn 7.3...
From Dusk to Dawn 4.0...

Not a winner but another really terrible film I got suckered into by Blockbuster...

And the third...

It was quietly deployed into supermarket bargain buckets I suspect!

Shame as the first was epic!

But the crown needs to go to the indiana Jones franchise. If South Park make a joke about George lucas raping Harrison Ford, that's a sign that the franchise has gone to far.

Michael Caine on Jaws the Revenge

I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.

I can't imagine you can watch them on consecutive nights then say that 3 isn't a massive disappointment

On Rotten tomatoes, The Dirty Dozen gets 90% and The Dirty Dozen - the next mission gets 22%.

Edit - oh, and the Final Mission gets 11%! What do I win?

Also, be careful when you Google Dirty Dozen 2 as I'm not sure some of the "stars" offer the same sort of Nazi slaughtering fun as they should. Perhaps they should wear more clothes.

Rotten Tomatoes does have wider gaps - probably because it measures % of positive reviews, whereas IMDB is just marks out of 10 averaged. So a score of 5 on IMDB wouldn't count as a positive review on RT.

I looked at the bottom 100 films on IMDB - there were one or two other franchise films on there (I forget which) as well as the Jaws one, but the best in those franchises were nowhere near Jaws in their rating. I have a feeling that with the IMDB scoring my initial thought of Jaws can't be beaten.

The Sting is a pretty wide gap!

Aliens - Alien 3 .

I actually quite like Alien 3, especially the Assembly Cut.

Aliens I find a bit over-rated. It's good, but the style is too action oriented for me (though oddly I love Starship Troopers, but then that film is a deliberate piss take). Alien on the other hand is a masterpiece.

IMDB gives it too high a rating at 5.8 considering the terrible reviews and death at the box office, but The Mummy v The Mummy (2017).

I was going to say Star Wars: A New Hope to Caravan of Courage an Ewok Adventure, but for some reason that scores a respectable 5.8 on IMDB with 10k votes.

I saw it at the Cinema as a kid, it was toss then.

Think I saw it on rental from the video shop. Expecting more Star Wars and just got fluffy Ewoks.

Anyway, how about Star Wars (none of this New Hope rubbish thank you ๐Ÿ˜› ) to ... The Star Wars Holiday Special ? ๐Ÿ˜€

Though amazingly it gets 2.3 on IMDB

It's a terrible experience to watch, though strangely interesting.
