[Closed] Q. fence post digging reveals broken foul waste pipe :/
A friend had dug down 2' to insert a 4" fence post. One of the holes had the remnants of an old posts concrete, which when removed revealed the brown porcelain foul waste pipe from next door having a 1" square hole in it. The pipe appears not to be cracked. The foul pipe is at a depth of approx 18". Should he just cover the break with a section of plastic pipe, pop his post beside it and seal with concrete? or is it leaving him open to problems further down the line??? How would the water Co. view this revelation? with a hefty fixing charge?
Does it only serve next door or multiple properties? If it is next door only then it is likely to be nothing to do with the water co. Personally I'd just patch it and say nothing either way. Top of the pipe doesn't do much anyway.
Is the pipe still being used? Lick the inside and report back.
I'd just put something over the top and carry of, you'll be fine.
