Ha! I love a good cover version, haven't clicked on all the links above and couldn't be bothered to find these on youtube but they're all good (IMO)

Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane
Pixies - Winterlong
Flunk - Blue Monday
Taken by Trees - Sweet Child 'o' Mine
Headless Heroes - Just Like Honey
Caulfield Sisters - Please, please, please etc. (the Smiths song) and Some Candy Talking
Clayhill - Please, please, please etc
Ada - Maps
Carter USM - Panic and This is how it Feels (the Inspiral Carpets song)
and many more!

Good shout on the Fall's Victoria and This Mortal Coil Song to the Siren 🙂

I'm surprised neither of these have been said yet...
Sweet child of mine - taken by trees

Numb - Jamelia

Also, already mentioned. "Running up that Hill" by Placebo and "Man who sold the world" by Nirvana are both superb...

Excellent thread! 🙂

Pogues' Dirty Old Town is great; follow the link to "Cinnamond" doing the same song and "WTF is that second rate quo copy!"

anyway.
+1 for This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren.
May I also suggest these:

Love that someone has gone to the trouble of transcribing digitally borne music for an orchestra to cover the Aphex Twin 🙂

I love this one... Abba gone Therapy?

[url=

Gimme Gimme[/url]

There's something really pleasingly ramshackle and offkilter about the whole thing.

And I might regret this, but... Marmaduke Duke doing Beyonce

This one seemed to upset people, but it works for me

I find this haunting; but that may be due to the end of year show from my eldest daughter's dance school. Two of the senior students danced to this and there wasn't a dry eye in the place with the way they interpreted it (except mine, of course, because I don't cry, ever, honest)

And slightly more fun

Listen through for the classic guitar break at about 2:20.

and:

Both from the seminal Ruby Tracks CD

whoever said All Saints, I hope you were joking

Ramones My Back Pages (Bob Dylan)
Ramones Do You Wanna Dance (Bobby Freeman)
Jose Gonzalez Heartbeats (The Knife)

There's loads of others but I like covers that are quite a different take on the original
