Over a cuppa this lunchtime I got talking about how badly the various departments of government were run, how the ministers may or may not be us useless as a chocolate fireguard, etc and wondered who would do a better job of running things.

So, living or past, who would you choose to run the country?

I'll kick off with Florence Nightingale for Health Secretary, because I think she would bring patient care back to the heart of healthcare.

Id suggest Ben Goldacre for DOH, but he'd also have to show he could understand that there wasn't a bottomless pit of cash. However for evidence based policy, you couldnt get a stronger candidate really.

Tim Harford chief secretary to the treasury with Ken Clarke as chancellor (yes, really 😉 )

Chris Boardman for transport minister (I genuinely believe he would do a great job).

Roy Keane as brew maker; there'd be nowhere to hide; if you weren't pulling your weight, you'd know about it.
