I'm sure there were some Icelandic players with gum shields in. Comes with having a dentist managing the team no doubt!

Ronaldo is no Dmitri Payet when it comes to free kicks.

every on the iceland teams name ended "son" apart from Gudjohnsen - why "sen" and not "son"?

In Iceland you don't have a family name, you second name is your Dad's name with -son or -dottir on the end depending on your gender. Perhaps Gudjohnsen is a Swedish immigrant?

I hope everyone points and laughs at him today for being such a tool.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36535204

Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo hit out at Iceland's lack of ambition after the two sides drew 1-1 at Euro 2016.

The Real Madrid star also refused to shake the hands of the Iceland players after the group match in Saint-Etienne.

"I thought they'd won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end," he said.

"It was unbelievable. We tried hard to win the game and Iceland didn't try anything. This, in my opinion, shows a small mentality and they are not going to do anything in the competition."

"Portugal try to play football and try to win the game," said Ronaldo.

"Iceland didn't try anything. They were just defend, defend, defend and playing on the counter-attack."

Did he miss the bit where they nearly scored right at the end on the counter attack.

Sorry, but when a minnow plays one of the 'powers' then they devise tactics to suit the mismatch, and if that doesn't play in to the hands of the other team then it's up to them to adapt and overcome.

Weapons grade bellend.

He had a free header and two free kicks in the last few mins and messed them all up. He's only got himself to blame, but can't see that happening any time soon!

I posted these two images in the cool/not cool thread. I stand by that. I know another poster felt that Ronaldo's charitable giving made him cool, I respect that but disagree. Portugal drew not least as Ronaldo missed a free header from 4 yards. Iceland imo had their fair share of chances too.

So cool, not cool

It was so close. The plucky underdog nearly pulled it off, but Iceland were just too strong for them.

Today's predictions:

Russia v Slovakia
Romania v Switzerland
France v Albania

I've mentioned it before on another thread but if you get the chance watch the vanity project that is 'Ronaldo'

He built a museum to himself, named his kid after himself , his mother takes tranquillisers before every match due to the stress of watching him play. Messi is portrayed as the villian. He has no humility but it's fascinating to watch and see what he does to become the player he is

"He and his agent, Jorge Mendes, appear to have a relationship of mutual worship. Mendes, Ronaldo says, is “the best, the Cristiano Ronaldo of agents”

Agree with you there bongo. Romania - Switzerland could go either way though. What are odds on that one?

I loved the random Iceland stat yesterday that if you're Icelandic, male and between the ages of 20-40 then there's a 1:2000 chance you'd be in the squad. And Ronnie has the cheek to say they have a small mentality.

Anyway I you're looking at over reactions to the 1st game result, Italy topped it for me and they're no small fry.

Inspired (is that the right thing) by Bongo's activities I've opened a skybet account, for stupid small stake treble activities.

Today's list:

Russia to beat Slovakia
Romania and Swaziland to draw
France to hump Albania - I've taken France-2 for the win, ie: a 3 clear goal margin.

If they all come in, I can retire (for an hour or so)

I was hoping my activities would serve as a warning to others.

Also, if you are to set foot onto the road to sin, consider using a bookie who offers free bets to new customers.

Come on Slovakia! They were woeful against the Welsh, well below par for them. My former Soviet satellite state politics is lacking, but do this lot like the Russians or will there be niggle?

Positive vibes being sent to Slovakia. ... certainly no love lost between those two nations either. Our Slovakian au-pair spoke Russian but refused to use that skill to find a job in London as she wanted nothing to do with the people or the language !

You'd want a 0-0 draw between Slo v Rus. As assuming you lose to England, A Solvakia win would put them level with you on points, goal difference making the difference, or have Russia 1 point ahead.

She made the selection. She was stunning. She is now very happily married with two lovely sons. You interpret that as you wish 🙂

I thought as much. I had a work colleague mate who had a similar situation; his wife chose a stunner on the basis she was so far out of his league that he wouldn't even bother thinking about making a play 😉

Fun Iceland fact.

The risk of Icelanders accidentally sleeping with a relative is apparently high enough to justify the creation of a smartphone app to help prevent it.

Edit: Not so fun fact. The above may not be strictly true, but who cares.

On Ronaldo's comments, from BBC Sport

Iceland midfielder Kari Arnason responded: "It just makes it sweeter that he is a bad loser. Althouhg he praised Ronaldo for being a "fantastic footballer" but said he was "not a gracious human being". "His comments are the reason why Messi is always going to be one step ahead of him," said Arnason.

😆 😆

It's really not Weiss to keep having so many touches.

Also, I think Putin has the manager's family in a basement somewhere.

they are starting to threaten a bit. sticking with my 0-0 though.

If I was welsh, I'd fancy my chances against the russians.
