When I woke up this morning I found that the plug sockets ring main breaker had tripped out. Each time I tried to reset it, it would instantly trip again. So I went round the house, switched everything off at the wall, reset the breaker and it stayed on. Then went round switching things back on until I found the culprit – the dishwasher.
I’m a bit stumped here because it wasn’t even switched on overnight! That is, it was on standby, but it wasn’t running a cycle or anything. Anyone know what could be causing this problem?
May have burnt out the electronic filter ??
Follow the lead into the dishwasher and you should find it runs into a small box/cylinder inside the machine, this is the filter which ensures no interferance with other electronic goods - Tv etc ...
Of course, youve checked the plug and lead ...
I'm not sure it even has a plug. It's a semi built-in unit with just a switch on the wall above the worktop, like a cooker.
Possibly damaged insulation in the lead / plug or water damage inside the unit. The RCD detects leakage to earth, so somewhere between the switch and the dishwasher there is current getting from L/N to earth.
You'll probably need to call out someone to look at it, if you're not happy working on electrics....
its hardwired - still need to *TURN OFF POWER AT THE MAIN BOARD*, remove switch/cover, disconnect the lead and check the above ..
If youre not totally confident get someone in.
