Taking my Dad up on Thursday and for the weekend to see the Edinburgh Tattoo, realised it's going to be very busy with the Fringe Festival and finding rooms.
Can anybody recommend good areas with good transport links on the outskirts for a cheaper hotel / B&B ?

Cheers.....

We were in Edinburgh thurs/fri used hermiston gate park and ride free parking, £1.40 each into city on bus and stayed at youth hostel just down from playhouse, £160 for 4 of us inc continental breakfast. Some of the places that had rooms were talking silly money.

Edinburgh buses are excellent so most outskirts areas. I would try Musselburgh maybe, you can also get a 7 minute train there.

If you're driving then you can do worse than park and ride. My secret spot is to park in South Gyle and take the train in. By doing that you have all sorts of options.

Any empty rooms going in that area next week?

Try the Ratho station travelodge then tram/bus from Ingliston P&R or see if there's any deals at the airport then tram/bus from the airport or Ingliston.

Might be rooms in south Queensferry then train in from dalmeny (or bus).

Linlithgow. 4 trains an hour and 20 minute journey. Booking.com has a couple of places with rooms on Thursday.

Nothing much to add other than the park and rides are good options, plus don't forget you need correct change for the bus! You can get a Lothian Bus payment app on your phone which can be handy.
