I'm an Ebay newbie and trying to get to grips with it all. What's the done thing when folk don't leave feedback, ie should I message them to ask if they're happy with their purchase and, if so, would they kindly leave feedback? If they're not happy then why not?

What's frustrating is that I've had some really good feedback from a few buyers and consider that items are always honestly described, sent promptly etc.

What gives?

Thanks. 🙂

People are lazy, me included, I've got about a dozen items outstanding I need to leave feedback for, I will get around to it...

Reminder might work, it might not, I can see how as a newbie it's more important to you than people with 100's of feedback already who have been going for years so a nice reminder message and mention your position is about the best you can do, it'd probably work on me!

I am a very low user of Ebay and the small amount of feedback I have is precious as a result.
I feel a little embarrassed doing it but I will ask the other party to leave feedback if they haven't within a few days.
It usually transpires that the other party is an Ebay queen and has many transactions daily. They are never offended by the prompt.

Feedback used to be rammed in your face, whereas now (using the app at least), it's in quite an obscure place, which means I always forget to leave it. I've had the odd message from both companies and individuals saying exactly as you've said, and it's reminded me to go and leave some, but I personally don't care in the slightest if I receive it, which is probably why I'm a bit lax with leaving it.

So... no, you're probably NBU, but there's likely no malice in it. I can't see why anyone would mind a gentle reminder, I don't.

Like others I probably cared more when it was <50.

Thank you amedias, most helpful. I know when items have arrived as they've been sent via signed for delivery although there's one that's concerning me as attempted delivery failed and postcode didn't tie in with address.

I have enough feedback where I don't really care about it. Leaving or giving. A lot of other people seem to feel the same. Which is crap for new users, especially sellers, as at the start it's quite important.

eBay don't really seem to push users to leave it either....or as least as much as they did in the past.

Anyway, here is some feedback for this thread:

People will probably get round to it eventually. As a newbie having some feedback is plenty - more than non is enough - to a buyer it doesn't really make any difference whether you've got 5 or 500 so long as the feedback you have seems genuine.

Having used eBay since 2004 I've noticed a big drop off in the dilligence of people providing feedback. It used to be something everyone did almost all the time, now it seems like the exception.

Mine is over 350 and 100% positive so probably I shouldn't worry but the thing is your feedback score is only as good as your last few transactions. Plus, if for some reason you get a negative mark, the only way to redeem youreslf is to improve your current positive scores, since I think the way they calculate your percentage is based on the last 12 months.

I usually contact the buyer/seller and politely ask as well but even this has recently failed to improve the response rate.

Agree. I would guess that around 20% of the things I sell get feedback these days at best whereas 15 years ago it was unusual not to get feedback. I still continue to leave feedback on every item I buy though.

It's every other git asking for feedback and reviews now for the most trivial of interactions.

I normally drop them a message if after a couple of weeks no feedback and nicely ask if they were happy with the items & delivery?. If so please could you leave feedback.
Always seems to get a positive response.

I have similar use period and feedback to the above, except I stopped leaving feedback for anyone several years ago. I sold several items and the winner (same person) never paid, it was then I found out you couldn't leave bad feedback as a seller so stopped regardless of buy or sell.

I did buy some fake oakley jawbreakers from China last month and the seller chased me to leave positive feedback via message, I didnt, but then a week later I got another message and an offer of money off if I left good feedback and ordered anything else. I now have 3 pairs of fake oakleys, 1 for MTB, 1 for Road and 1 spare...

Just follow-up with a "hope everything is OK" message and if so then also no harm saying what you said here in a nice way saying "I'm new on ebay and would appreciate it if"...

Though to be honest in most cases it makes no odds if you have 5 or 500.... as someone else said "as long as the 5 look genuine"

Its really not worth hassling people over as you're more likely to get a poor....

I also find it really annoying when I'm asked to review something several times ... usually not a used item but like a present for someone.

I still get feedback for about 2/3 of stuff I sell. Some can take ages to appear (a few weeks after the transaction).

That's brilliant - I love the occasional perplexed reply.

when selling i always leave feedback for a quick payment, and so when buying if i dont get feedback before i leave mine, it will have a lower star rating for communication..
feedback really doesnt matter, that said its usefull for new sellers

Thanks again for your, er, feedback. 😉

Have just found out that a package didn't arrive due to my putting an incorrect letter on the second part of the postcode, house name and road name in village was correct though. Bit peeved with the driver.

Bad feedback here we come. 🙁
