Sold a android phone on eBay. I wiped and factory reset the phone from bootloader before selling. A week after receiving the phone the bidder has contacted me to say this:
"Hi
Your phone arrived today. Unfortunately, due to how Factory Restore now works, it won't let me complete setup without your Google account.
Please go to https://security.google.com/settings/security/activity and remove account access for this phone.
If this doesn't work (for me), I will have to return the phone to you so that you may re-setup the phone, and then send it to me so that I can sign it into my account and out of your account. This may make you uncomfortable, in which case I may suggest we do that together in person in a public place.
This whole situation sucks, I know, but Google are just trying to make sure I haven't stolen your phone."
This is something I'm not aware of being an issue. Seems like a scam to me and I have told them that.
Anyone else aware of this?
Just go to that link and click to the right of that device, then click remove access.
Hard to see how removing a device from your account could be a scam.
Though a quick Google suggests that a Factory Reset doesn't properly wipe an Android phone anyway - so either way they'll soon be browsing through all those photos of you in your wife's knickers 😀
I had deleted the device from that link before selling.
Does seem an odd scam but I've never heard or experienced android locking out a new user after a device reset. Just doesn't feel right.
Hmmm he maybe legit link
