Its a lovely feeling to finish a 5 week (dry) offshore trip & get a morning flight home; bloody Mary, full cooked breakfast and a few pints makes me one happy traveler, another few on the plane gets me out of a midnight to midday shift beautifully! (I don't have to drive at the other end)

Flight to Ibiza? I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that his behaviour probably wasn’t alcohol related

You should see those in the long haul flight trying to get their money worth by drinking as much as they possibly can ... larger, wine, gin, whiskey, whatever the lot ... then see them queue up to go to the toilet.

Following on from Binners about Scandis snd Russians, I had business dealings with the Finns - we are rank amateurs by comparison.

North finland in winter  - land of midnight sun - hotel bars populated by non-communicative lumberjacks back from 4 weeks of total isolation drinking themselves into spirits induced oblivion as quickly as they can.

As for what and when to drink, champagne is the only drink suitable for any hour of the day or night; chin chin

Taser for getting up before the seatbelt sign is off etc.

when I'm King (it's only a matter of time) people reclining their seats in front of me will be killed to death.

I’m usually driving at the other end of a flight so tend to abstain.

But even when not, the thought of alcohol before the sun has risen, let alone  set makes me shudder

There'll still be people in front of you?

Personally for me, I like a drink or two before take-off, so that I can feel that little bit more comfortable walking onto something that's about to propel me thirty thousand feet in the air, with only a few millimetres of aluminium separating me from the clouds, and certain death.

If they want to replace alcohol at the bar for any other sedative, that works for me too.

Returning from NY recently and I was half asleep. Guy in front reclines chair and the screen I was looking at came at me quickly... In my confusion I gripped the chair and pushed it forward very hard. Only his belt stopped him face-planting the seat in front of him. Air rage almost ensued and we had a stand off.... That whole reclining thing needs a re-think.

I wonder if they are going to ban alcohol in the business lounges as well?

Airports are so crowded and stress inducing now that you need a couple of pints to take the edge off before boarding. If I was rich enough to fly first-class I doubt I would need it.

I haven't seen really drunk behaviour on flights but certainly anti-social behaviour has increased - not so much to do with drink as it is to do with a me-only culture where rudeness is tolerated rather than shunned.

No problem with that, but if they stop my Bloody Mary with breakfast in the First lounge tomorrow, there'll be hell to pay! 😎😉

The Finns are the world champions of getting royally shitfaced. Even the Russians admit it.

In Russia there is a single word - Zapoi - which translates roughly as 'doing nothing but binge-drinking for up to two weeks straight, failing to turn up for work, skipping appointments and family obligations'. (My Russian ex was genuinely surprised that there is no single English word for this).

But even the Russians frame REAL drunkenness in terms of the Finns. The Russian term for being really, really, really drunk is "like a Finn in St Petersburg". (i.e. a Finn somewhere where booze is comparatively cheap) 😆

There's an 'international waters' rule once through security which negates any form of local time. However, any more than 2 and you are just too early for the flight. It's a pre-ski trip standard these days.

Once killed some time before a return trip from Dubai in a hotel bar for the day, after the 8th the return flight was horrendous, really regretted it.

A Japanese pilot who was arrested at Heathrow Airport for being drunk has admitted being more than nine times the legal alcohol limit.

He was found to have 189mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system - the legal limit for a pilot is 20mg.

Christ, that is an impressive effort. That's not waking up a bit groggy and needing a cup of coffee, that's staying up all night pissing it up.

Not to generalise but the more budget the airline the more hostile the staff the more issues you have. The Ryan Air line is like an undercard for the big fight in some I've seen where people prepare to battle the charges and get psyched up for it. Then prepare to battle for a seat etc. Treat people a little better and they are more chilled through the whole experience.

I enjoy a breakfast wine before flying off to holibobland. It takes the edge off my bad flying nerves.

If its banned, I'll have to get some benzo's off my GP.

Just seems weird to do it in an airport. Even when it's the right "time" from a timezone perspective my body won't tolerate morning drinking.
