I'm feeling sorry for myself with manflu, and wondered where I could take myself If I had the funds and the time...

Initially, I thought;

Buy Audi RS4 Avant (12months old) drive to Holland via regular ferry, catch up with friends for a few days there, drive over to Germany to visit the 'ring, drive over to Norway to see the fjords, spend some time kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, eating plenty of good food either in a luxury hotel or camping somewhere serene, drive up to finland and then onto sweden, taking in all of what's there.

All in all, I think 8-10 weeks would see me round most of that, if a little rushed.

Or, would I go down to italy, spend some time out in the countryside, stop in quiet, remote and very sleepy villages drinking some good wines and plenty of local food, just travel around and see what's what.

Travelling is something I know not a lot about in terms of 'must see' places and where is idyllic.

cheers,
jt

Look at Iceland. I just came back from a short break there and really want to go back. Amazing place. Landscape is something else. I'd hire one of those huge superjeeps and do the circuit route. Food in Reykjavik was awesome to.

(currently suffering from manflu too 🙁 )

I'd do similar to above but on a motorbicycle rather than an audi

Hmm probably some exotic island in south east asia with white sand, blue sea, jungle. Sipping that beautiful fresh fruit juice they sell out there, having a laugh with the locals.

Sod the bikes.

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam -> travel/culture/food/beer.

March
Canada -> skis, beer, food, fun, laughs.

A Land Cruiser Amazon with good sound system, rackful of CD'd, my couple of bikes inside. Where? Near Jena, Germany for starters, then the wildest mountains in Europe - Carpathian Mountains:

Germany, Poland & Iceland all sound excellent 😉

Asia could well be cool, but not sure whether I fancy that straight away (as in, next year, maybe the year after?)

Canada could be cool, summer months could be better as a friend's folks own some stupidly expensive lodge @ $1200 per night 😉 (or gratis in the summer!)

If it helps I'm off to Thailand & Singapore in 3 weeks time 🙂

Hot / beachy / Jungle trips are more the missus cup of tea but still fanatastic, I'm really looking forward to it

My good lady and I did 11 weeks in 2006. NYC for a few days, then flew to L.A. Picked up car then drove up to San Fran on the coastal highway (then back). LA to New Zealand, picked up campervan in Auckland, drove north to Whangarei before crossing to the West coast and back down and going to Rotorua etc. Crossed to Sth Island and headed around the coast, down the West to Queenstown, across and back up to Christchurch. Flew to Melbourne, then drove along the south coast to Adelaide, then flew up to the Whitsundays for a week. Last stop Fiji for a couple of weeks then back home. A great trip, a lot of driving but we saw some awesome places. Can't wait to go again!

Another vote for NZ in a campervan too

Well it appears Woody2000 has "been there, done that, beat you to it" I have to say probably South America for me drive around do some MTBing in different countries then a couple of days on a nice beach (days is enough for me sitting around!). Mind most of the stuff above sounds awesome, doesn't take much to persuade me to go on holiday anywhere! Just come back from long weekend in NY that was awesome too!

i'd cycle round icelans again, that was amazing... NZ was good on a bike, but not as good as iceland, tbh.

2 of my dream holidays may be comign up next summer as it is - cycling in norway with the gf on our tandem, and a trip to china and japan with one of my best mates, taking the trans siberian on the way with ferries to get across to japan etc - hopefully only one flight needed...

Did a trip to Oz a few years ago, one of these TrailFinders deals. That was good. B'ham-Dubai-Sydney-Uluru-Cairns-Brisbane-Dubai-B'ham. Cost us about £5k all in. Only had 3 weeks, & Wife was pregnant, kind of a last chance before the kids arrive thing... 🙂

Wouldnt rush back to Sydney or Cairns, but Brisbane (& in particular the Sunshine Coast) were simply fab. I'd emigrate there if I could.

Abroad, would love to van it overland to Italy, then catch a ferry to Corsica for a couple of weeks exploring the myriad mountain trails

[img] [/img]

Or be just as happy doing the same in beautiful Ecosse

[img] [/img]

As long as said van was in good running order..
