Seriously? I just can't believe anyone would listen to it through choice.

Our itunes at work is full of all sorts of stuff. Mountains of music of just about any genre. We have it stuck on shuffle all day. And I can listen to just about everything. Just about. But.. BUT.. Jazz? WTF?! its just endless, pointless noodling.

Does anyone actually enjoy this twoddle?

What musical genres do you find totally unfathomable?

Jazz - oh! I thought you meant the Honda car. Both are truly awful.
However for me its rap...... makes me want to slit my throat.

Yes, love it, from Cannonball Adderly to Donald Byrd, even like the experimental jazz prog of Soft Machine. Can't abide thrash metal, mega whatever, Barber shop singers are pretty awful too. Each to their own.

Skalpel are worth checking out if you dont like jazz

"dillinger escape plan" are quite heavily jazz influenced - check out anything on their album "miss machine" and thank me by "paying it forward" (like the book) 😈

Yeah, jazz. A label I love just put out this album by Austin Peralta
Man, it's just horrible!

Heavy Metal bands churning out the same old power chords. WHY?

It's similar to asking if someone likes rock music. I like some Jazz and dislike some.

Metal that is just thrash. What's the point, there's no structure there. Boring.

Talking about Aphex Twin on the other thread made me think of this but it isn't ground breaking enough to get a mention. Then a kind soul comes along and gives me a chance to post this, enjoy...

I 'appreciate' jazz from a 'difficult to do well' perspective but wouldn't listen to it from choice

But then again, Ray Charles is jazz...

I like a bit of Mahavishnu Orchestra - it's like Jazz, Rock, and Thrash all in one!

Did anyone see the attempts to shut up the jazz twaddle on Jools Holland on Tues night? They would carried on for hours I'm sure. Bit of bad planning that, should stuck the jazz trio on last surely and then just faded them out.

Jazz? Shyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyte

Depends what you mean by 'Jazz' really?

Bessy Smith
Count Basie
John Coltrane
Winton Marallis
Jan Gaberek
Eric Satie

(spelling may be wrong!).

it's all Jazz and it's mostly good

So you just like everything? Thrash, pirate metal, dubstep, grime, pop, classical, rap?

realman... are you kidding?

Think you read my post wrong. I meant I can't stand metal where its just thrash. I'm not saying all metal is thrash. I'm listening to some right now as a matter of fact..

realman i think you need to listen to more than 20 seconds to get an idea what DEP are all about

its about the farthest thing from plain old boring thrash i can think of that is still "metal"

going to blast it all the way home now and confuse the reading general public 😀

Heavy Metal bands churning out the same old power chords. WHY?

quite possibly because there are only 12 choices, much the same as any other music

I find the interaction between melody and harmony is what makes a thing unique

I've never listened to DEP in my life (not knowingly anyway). I wasn't responding to your post, I was responding to the OP..

The Fast Show sketches are funny, I think the Mighty Boosh Jazz Trance was the best though

Yeah, I was going to mention that. Did you catch Jools' face shortly before he interrupted them? He looked like he'd got a poo wedged.

Love loads of jazz records, equally there are plenty that I can't stand. Dismissing an entire musical genre because the Fast Show made fun of it is just stupid.

Look, if any of your favourite artists you can take a song from The Sound of sodding Music and imbue it with this much passion and yearning, post it up at once, OK?

In terms of musical genres I don't "get", all the dubstep I've heard to date sounds like crap drum 'n' bass records played at the wrong speed. It doesn't follow, though, that the whole genre is worthless.

Agree, but bloomin funny.

As far as Dub step I'd much rather the UK yoot were creating their own sound rather than imitating the lame mainstream hip hop coming out of the US.

Several years ago I had a bit of an epiphany when I listened to Giant Steps by John Coltrane.

Trouble is, it sort of locked my jazz preferences into Bop.

I was listening to Dexter Gordon's Our Man in Paris driving home last night. Brilliant.

We already did that with D'n'B. Quite why someone thought to take the fun bits out of that genre (the energy, the build-ups) and replace them with something that sounds like it was made for ketamine-addled crusties to wobble about to like they've shat their pants is beyond me.

Come to think of it, I'm not a big fan of rape gaze either.

I absolutely love jazz. In fact the more angular and noisy the better! But I love all aspects of jazz from bebop, soul jazz, jazz rock, free jazz, fusion etc. The only jazz I don't like is wasshername... Elvis Costello's wife. Reminds me of Starbucks(not that I ever go there!)
Oh, and I also like dubstep.

Love Jazz.

Some of the older Glenn Miller / Big Band isn't to my taste - nor is the totally way-out avant garde.

I think a lot of people listen to jazz on "lo-fi" equipment .. Home radios / in shops. I couldn't enjoy jazz until i got a half-decent hifi - then it sort of fell into place ... The delicate balance of rhythms and percussion is usually obliterated by a skwarky saxaphone on anything else ... I find jazz is all about the 'sound' of the instruments, the texture and the interplay between musicians... You can't get that on a 59.99 argos special 'hifi'.

(I'm not advocating audiophoolery - but even a 400 quid system would be a thousand times better than that bush in the kitchen)

How could someone dislike this ...
