Don't mind if you are a supporter of Obama. I think Obama is nothing better than Bush as an American president. What's your opinion?

Kate Bush is a far superior songwriter, but Obama is far superior at urinating from a standing position, without aid.

It's certainly a very difficult question indeed.

I think Nicolas Sarkozy is nothing better than Jacques Chirac as a French president. What's your opinion about that ?

He's alright I was pleased a person from his background could lead a country like America (remember it's less than 100 years since black people drank from different taps!!!).

Could he have stopped the financial meltdown - no.
Could he have pulled out the middle east - yes.
Should he have pulled out the middle east - no.
Will he clean up the mess his country have created in the middle east - no.
Has he started any more wars - none that I know of.
Has he acted reasonably towards Iran, North Korea etc - Yes.
Has he solved the US/Cuba problem - No.
Should he have Solved the Cuba problem - Yes.

He's okay I'd give him another term.

He's done a pretty good job in a very difficult situation what with the financial mess he inherited, the war mess he inherited and then one of the most looney and obstructionist senate / congresses probably ever.

I don't actually believe any of that conspiracy stuff. I thought it was funny though.

I think he's been as effective/ineffective as Bush.
Dunno if that's down to him, or the lack of Democrat control of the senate.

A chimp would be better than Bush.

The problem is that the American people basically stabbed him in the back at the first mid-terms after the election by essentially turning the house Republican, making it difficult for him to get through any of the bills he was elected for.

I think, in World terms, he has been an excellent President, for no reason other than he has regained a lot of the credibility that Bush threw away. However, I do think he has also done OK with his decision making.

Yes, he has made mistakes: I believe one of his biggest faults is his lack of willingness to bargain with the opposition and compromise; "Play the game", in other words. From what I have read, this has led to him being less successful in getting bills passed. On the other hand, some may see that as a good character trait.

I got the above from a interview with a Whitehouse aide. He also said that when you went in to brief him, we wanted to know every single bit of detail, no matter how complicated. By all accounts, this sometimes leaves people a little frustrated and with the opinion that he is slow at making decisions. However, the aide did go on to say that he almost invariably came to the right decisions.

IMO if America looks at him as a failure, they will mainly have themselves to blame. I believe he needs another term.

I was talking about this with a mate from Denver last night, American politics is so polarised these days there is very little middle ground. Instead of working things out opposing people just say no so nothing gets done.

Rush Limbaugh still hates him so he is still doing well in my opinion 🙂

He's done a pretty good job in a very difficult situation......

He's done an excellent job in places such as Honduras and Egypt, where with the help of his sidekick Clinton, he's appeared caring, concerned for democracy, and with the people, whilst in reality doing what he could to help anti-democratic forces establish themselves/remain in power, to the detriment of the people.

Bush could never have got away with that, and to be fair, he wouldn't really even have bothered trying. But being black and a Democrat, Obama's narrative about being the 'good guy' always seems so much more plausible.

I think he has better intentions than Bush. He strikes me as basically a good man, but no President (or Prime Minister) will ever be able to keep their promises and be popular, however well meaning they are. The world's not black and white enough for that to happen.

Love it - so what you're saying is the electorate voted for him because they liked his policies, then, just for a laugh, voted to stop him carrying out those policies?

Yes, that is what I'm saying, apart from the "fora laugh" bit. It was clear that Obama really tried to bring about radical change, but many Americans chickened out and chose to play it safe. His health bill was one good example: he has been criticized for getting the bill passed in such a watered-down format, but ultimately the public made it impossible for him to get it passed in it's original form by packing the house with conservative republicans at the mid-terms.

Obama: a good man.
Bush: a war monger, a religious nut and an oil company pawn.

Chirac: a loveable rogue. Of all the politicians I've lived under he's the one I felt happiest and safest with, especially with de Villepin as PM.
Sarkozy: an unloveable rogue (but more loveable than Sego or Hollande).

Au contraire Rodney, I clearly remember Villepin's lovey-dovey speech at the UN. All red-blooded Anglo-Saxon governments were ready to go to war.

68, despite all that the left lost the elections. I reckon your pic in front of the hôtel de ville is much older.

I thought socialists were all lovey-dovey and against the workers of the world being massacred in the name of some king/dictator/capitalist, Ernie.

Maybe. But I don't see how Villepin's speech at the UN provides irrefutable evidence that a Frenchman is a fighter as well as a lover.
