Posting this on behalf of BlackVanDyke of Pistonheads.com on the offchance that somebody might recognise this tool.

BlackVanDyke
Mates of mine who both have severe cerebral palsy were burgled a couple of weeks ago. Most of what was taken was adapted computer equipment, used for communication (neither of them can speak), general internetty social interaction, and music making.Through the marvels of technology, Lyn managed to remotely activate the webcam herself and has some footage of who has her stuff.

The local police claim to be unable or uninterested in using the video footage, email address, street address or phone number Lyn has managed to turn up. What on earth do we do now?

Here is Lyn's appeal for help or information:

It's also been posted to Reddit, so if anybody is a member there and wouldn't mind upvoting it to garner some attention it would be most welcome:

Could also send it in to crimebusters..... in fact send it to everyone! I agree, very clever and this cleverness deserves rewarding.
Really hope it works out well.

Deserves a bit of vigilante justice, I think...

surely if you can still remotely connect to it you should be able to get the IP address of it which would give you a rough location or if the police could be bothered they can contact get the exact location from the ISP?

She has the location though. I'd be complaining to the police, try and take it to someone more senior. Failing that, the press isn't a bad call.

Hope she gets her stuff back.

Yes but it would require police action to get the address from the ISP.
My IP addy puts me in London whereas I'm in the NW!

Cannot understand why the police are not interested in the webcam footage as thye use cctv to help solve crimes all the time, they even have dedicated forensic cctv personal to analyse the images/footage, A word with the Chief Constable is in order I reckon.

In view od recent publicity around the police failing to act upon crimes involving vulnerable/disabled people, then a letter to the cheif constable copied to the local MP & DavCam might help, quoting the current CBA response in view of decent evidence.
