[Closed] Decent pub in Birmingham
I'm meeting up with some mates in Birmingham this afternoon. I'm going to be a couple or so hours ahead of them. Can anyone suggest a decent pub that serves decent ales I can while away the time in? Cheers.

(scroll down a bit)
Best ale pub in Brum is the Wellington, just off the high street and minutes from the station...a must if you like your beer! (and a few extra strong ciders)

also, the symphony hall often does a free gig at 5pm on fridays - jazz/blues kind of thing. it's worth a look if you're passing in case there's an act worth watching.
There are loads (head to the Mail Box or Brindley place if you want a wander, you’ll find somewhere) but a few to think about are:
The German Market – Not a pub obviously but it serves booze and food, it’ll keep you entertained for a few hours.
The Post Office Vaults, New Street – 400 ish continental beers in a dark, old fashioned pub. Try the German smoked beer, it is awesome.
The Old Contemptible, by Snow Hill station – Been there forever, good beer and the food isn’t bad either.
The Wellington, Bennett’s Hill – A proper old man’s real ale pub. You won’t look out of place nursing a pint with your paper in here.
The Rose Villa Tavern, Jewellery Quarter – A bohemian place, slightly odd clientele but well worth a visit.
The Wellington is well worth a visit but don't get carried away (they usually have about a dozen different beers on draft) - it was responsible for the worst hangover of my life 😐
If you want food head round the corner to the Old Joint Stock for a burger and a pint of ESB.
Cheers guys. Just settled down to a Mad Goose in the Wellington for starters. Tough choice but I'm sure I'll manage. Just hope I last the evening. This could get messy!
Enjoy - I love the Wellington. 🙂
No saddleback on today. You must have polished it off! Had a couple of ales and now working on an imported Czech Krusovice to freshen the palette (reminds me of visits to Prague). Mates are on their way though so will probably be dragged off to some trendy bar that only serves super chilled, super fizzy tasteless lager 🙁 but thanks for the tip off guys, it's been nice supping Ales and chatting to random strangers! A great place.
Or get a bus up to Harborne and do `the run', or what's left of it. 🙂
