PC Rathband was always clear that the support he received from the Chief Constable was above and beyond what he expected. She been speaking and breaks down at the end. He openly criticized the Federation for lack of support and he should never have been put inthe situation he ended up in. Either way we can speculate all we like it is horrific and may he rest in peace. I feel for his children.

I certainly don't want to get into an argument about this, as I know it to be true, but strangely that's what my mate said too. Clearly though PC Rathband wasn't happy with the support he received as he set up a charity so that others wouldn't go through what he'd been through, (his words and he wasn't talking about the actual incident), and the bottom line is that whatever way you turn it up, the outcome indicates he needed more than he got.

Lets not forget that the **** moat was responsible and lets do the discussion on support another day/thread.

He didn't get the support he could have had and he was aware of that. Bits of advice, offers of an elbow for mobility just aren't enough and no amount of goodwill was going to get him through his most desperate days. Very, very sad, he was badly failed by the people who should have helped him.

I'd say the support or lack was responsible, not Moat, focussing on him helps no one.

Junkyard +1

Al, Moat bears ALL responsibility for this. However having someone to blame does not detract from the fact that PC Rathband was injured and died needlessly. I hope he has finally found peace.

al I think we can safely say if he had not been shot in the face by that **** we would not be having this discussion and he would not have needed support.
whether the support was sufficient or not is another issue and I would say this thread is not the place for that discussion

I disagree, no one could have stopped Moat, but services could easily exist to help his victim.

Saying otherwise goes against Policemen etc who have been failed in this way IMO

Lots of people are failed by so called society, good people ,bad people, children, and people who work for public servcies, the self employed and the unemployed, its down to cash at the end of the day, and having the time and resources to help.

Al. Moat could have stopped Moat. He made choices, he actioned those choices.

I've been upset about this ever since I heard about it. Partly the déjà vu aspect, but mainly the horrible inevitability of it. It didn't take a genius to see where it was going.

Sad and tragic news and a real shame. Hope his charity continues in his memory. hopefully he's happy and in peace in heaven.
