Geek mode, they're not seen my most as 'baddies' - just Solders/Police. The empire is/was fairly benevolent to the 'common man' in the original films - even in Hive of Scum and Villainy that is Mos Eisley most people simply ignored the Storm Troopers at least until the shoot out in the Cantia when the Inn Keeper called them for help. They were only violent towards the Insurgents - the exception being when they attacked the Jawas, but of course that was a 'black ops' mission and they blamed it on someone else - Obi Wan Kenobi is basically Osama Bin Laden and Darth Vader is GW Bush.
Luke was trying to join the Empire as a pilot before Osama Wan Kenobi radicalized him.

Luke's either disfigured, transformed in some may (cyborg) or dies early, I reckon one of the first two as otherwise I still reckon he'd be on the poster.
Is Kylo Ren a Skywalker? Did Luke collect Vader's mask etc after the fire burned down at the end of ROTJ and take them off with him somewhere? Later He has a kid who is Skywalker-powerful in the force and Luke can't control him (maybe because he's still struggling to control his own powers...) and the kid gets obsessed with his Granddad, nicks the mask from Luke and off he goes.

Or just not in it much, the original cast are only there for continuity - the story will be mostly about the new Leads.
also I think Boba Fett is in this one, perhaps as an uneasy ally of Han Solo in some way.

Luke's already disfigured, after getting whacked in the chops by the Wompa in the ice cave at the beginning of Empire. (It was a plot device to explain away Hamill's real life injuries after a car crash.)
I expect he's not on the poster because he's only in it as a cameo. Killing him off early would be a good motivator for a few characters I expect.

So why are Leia and Han looking so sad? theories heard so far:

The casting call for Episode 8 went out a few weeks ago. It lists the actors coming back. Doesn't mean they didn't die and it's a flashback scene that they will be filming.
so more guessing about the next two?
rumours are the next one will be the story of the ship that got the codes for the death star noted by leia in new hope 'many people died bringing us these plans' and I'd like the other one to be a story about solo and calrissian's younger days, where we see how solo got the falcon from calrissian and solo meeting chewie for the first time perhaps.

That droid must have awesome seals on it to be able to roll over the sand and not gum up - or am I overthinking it ?
Definitely over-thinking it; there are no seals, because none are needed. There is a sphere, with a dome 'hovering' above the sphere - there's an air-gap between the two components of the droid, it couldn't possibly work otherwise.
And I'm very excited about this, it really does look like a return to the proper action/adventure aspects of the original three films, Lucas really did cock it up with the prequels, basically because nobody had the balls to stand up to him and tell him where he was screwing up.

Not sure about the whole Starkiller weapon thing. Kinda like one up man ship on the other films. Rotj did that a bit....

Gotta say I had assumed the same as you - some kind of electro magnet making the 'head' part hover above the sphere. And with positive and negative fields, the magnet would form the propulsion.
