Truly a one-off
Top man. I love his stuff with Gong and Soft Machine. Sad to see him go but he was still performing a couple of weeks ago - age 77.
RIP
I've been listening to his music since I was 16, still love the early Gong albums.
RIP indeed. My enduring memory is watching the opening game of the World Cup with him in 98. A strange but very pleasent afternoon.
He lived a life thats for sure. I saw him with Gong mid nineties. One of the best gigs i've ever been to. I was smashed off my face and I think he was to but don't tell anyone.
You'll have to elaborate on that story tang, it sounds as surreal as the flying teapot trilogy ๐
Which I'm sat listening to right now.
I could swear that I saw it up in the sky
Only teapots, I never knew they could fly
It was green as an emerald in the blue
Now I'm wondering if it was really you
I loved the bits he did on the stool with that glass of whiskey.
sad couple of days
think i'll have a cup of tea
and then have another one
have a cup of tea
If you want to fly,
if you want to become a star
a superhero
You could try the ascension of the great pyramid of life
Counting again and again from one to nine
Approaching and pushing away infinity - O sweet absurdity!
But if you prefer that old silly number zero
You'll become a master of doing nothing - being nothing
Turn your head up to the morning sun.
And your life will just have begun.......

'Bye Daevid.
I lost my virginity accompanied by Angel's Egg
thank you Daevid RIP
Well that was a good and sad way to spend my night, just listened to the flying teapot trilogy with a few beers.
"So there goes Zero the Hero
Turning on around the wheel of births and deaths"
This was a big part of my teens
I saw them a lot between 1973 and 1976. Watchfield was one of the best gigs, so my mate tells me, red brick microdots were good and I have very little memory of the week;-)
When You was released we saw them in Guildford, they were great and after the gig we thumbed a lift back to Dorking, a squaddie in a MKII jag picked us up, he had YOU playing on his tape player!
Last time I saw them was when Shamal was released, saw them in the Hamersmith Odeon, they had changed.
We saw Daevid Allen a couple of times in the Mountain Grill after that.
I have Cabembert Electrique and the teapot three on my MP3 player and listen to them in my garage regularly.
Was aware Daevid's time here was up after his lovely, brave announcement a month or so ago. Omwards and upwyrds, do grooveinpeace ๐
Along with Moebius and Terry Pratchett, it's been a bit of a week.
To say goodbye 'til next, my favourite Daevid Allen song, and I feel its not wrong to choose one that ain't Gong
What? moebius too? Now that really is a kicker ๐
I think we can guess what kind of teen years you had, gordimhor
Just remembered Moebius died three years ago. Most confused. Been playing Angels Egg all morning. I love that album.
Dupe post.
