Utterly bizarre.

So flame me, watching some-one who knows what they are doing playing a game that you know and it's on super hard and they're taking down a level boss with some cool moves is pretty sweet (if, y'know, you're a bit of a nerd about it)

I watch some on line, pretty cool.

I think this thread highlight how middle aged we all are...
if you guys think playing games has passed you by what about watching someone else play games?!

https://go.twitch.tv/

must be about 350,000 people currently watching!?

I enjoy games, but have no idea why you'd want to watch someone else play them instead?

My son LOVES watching people play games on youtube: minecraft/Roblox etc etc.

I find it odd.
But... it's no 'odder' than sitting down and watching people kick a ball about. Or, watching OTHER people ride a bike on TV.

So each to their own.

There is psychological phenomenon here I remember reading about or hearing about whereby if you are familiar with the game mechanics then your brain reacts in the same way when you watch someone playing as it would if you yourself were playing.

If you don't know how the game works then you have a much more limited reaction. There's probably a similar phenomenon at work as you say with people watching soccerball.

I remember sat with my mates taking turns to play Wipeout 2097 on the original playstation, on what for the time was a mahoosive telly - not only the player, but every one of us was leaning into the corners..

The CD player, never bought one, just bought my first car that's got one fitted and but have no discs to play.
Never downloaded any racket either.
Music there's just too much of it about.

Joey Essex? Joey Deacon more like!

That's me needing another new keyboard, thanks for that.

Very common I'm told. Blokes too now. I blame the Internet.

I find it slightly disturbing that it's sexually desirable to look prepubescent (or in the guys' case, like the last chicken in Lidi).

I've never like football. But I think I 'get it'. It's tribalism innit. Probably one of the last outposts, even in its watered down state. I'll get slated for having this opinion, but I find the whole casual scene really exciting and interesting. I was too young for all that at the time though.

Popular music also used to be about tribalism, the sound you were into dictated your dress and put you apart from other tribes. Just like the punks rebelled against the prog rock bores that came before them, we, as kids getting into the rave scene put ourselves apart from the entire system, rock dinosaurs and all!

All that's been torpedo'd, mainly by the internet. Local scenes don't have time to grow and develop a unique identity, because the moment anything cool starts to happen it's discovered and is old hat within weeks. Which is why everyone seems to look the same these days.

Oh, no point in this thread then.
And anyway, my "utterly bizarre" comment was about the LIVE shows/tournaments. I even had LIVE in CAPS. ๐Ÿ˜›

Yeah, this one too. Love riding, but people keep asking if I saw this or that event, be it road tour of something, off-road world cup, rampage etc... nah, really can't get into it. I try now and again but it would just be background noise and I'll do something else.

Likewise "sick" edits on YouTube set to some thrash metal track.

Yes, recently we went to Mexico and only did one day trip out in 2 weeks, but you know what - I don't tell others how to spend their days back here in the UK

Neither do I ๐Ÿ™„

Friends. Never seen a single episode.

Facebook and social media in general. Just don't get it.

Star Wars. Why do people take it so seriously?
