There are only two things I'd change. The first one being 'go to newest post' as many have mentioned above. I've got scroller's thumb.
The second thing is minor, but why for the love of god do we need a description on the overview page under each forum telling us what it is? I think it's fairly obvious! Look how much bloomin' room it takes up on my phone screen!

*takes deep breath*
And can we have the combined view back? Or maybe tick boxes/radio buttons so you can opt to see the FS and WTD posts in the main forum.

Yes! Makes me look like a right old lady!

The new forum is coming 18th May 2018. Thats GDPR day, so on the 17th this one will cease to exist and al data will be erased. We'll have to re-register with the new forum ticking a "consent" button along the way.

how old are you Wallop? if the hat fits.... 😛
It would be better for my well being if I could delete any brexit thread.
I'm not paying a penny because I got banned (unfairly in my opinion) for 48 hours once. 😆
i'd like sub forums
and avatars.
I'd hide this bit when you scroll down.
Because it's permanently burned itself into my mobile screen.
I do not spend to much time lurking, no sir-ee Bob.
Can we crowd fund a group of former KGB mercenaries to hunt down and murder to death people who instead of answering the question asked, answer a question they want to be asked. Premium members get 24 hours notice to tell their families they love them and start running.
eg.
Q. Do you grease a press fit BB.
A. You should have bought a bike with a hollowtech BB .
The forum would be empty in 25 hours
Two verticals, Bike and Chat is enough.
Needs more leverage
I'd pay (very) good money to transfer my forum from its current host to the singletrack forum software (different branding, obv).
Probably only take a whizzkid a weekend (I wish), 18,000 members, 35,000 posts and no facility to download the database 🙁
Jekkyl, I'm 37. Not old 😆

...That aside are there other improvements you would like?
The invitations to the Super Premier members outing in Teneriffe should be put out earlier.
I know we get our First Class fares paid and all accomm etc, but I couldn't go this year because of other business arrangements.
I'm sure I'm not the only one inconvenienced like this. At least a month's notice.
Oh, and I think our P should be a different colour from ordinary P members. How about golden yellow P?
We've no plans to build in image hosting right now. It adds a level of responsibility that I just don;t want to deal with right now. We'd have to get you all to agree to new t&c's to try and cover ourselves when someone uploads something wrong. Hotlinking images gives us a level of distance that makes things easier to deal with. Maybe we'll bring in the ability as part of the premier features.. Dunno.. it's just not on the radar at the moment
I can totally understand this from the STW POV, but I also feel the same from a personal POV.
If I upload a photo to a forum and then later want it removed, that's not easily possible (doubly so with the current STW edit window). Hosting externally and linking allows me a level of control over the persistence of the images I post, so I for one am not bothered about image uploads as I wouldn't use the feature anyway.
Take the Singletrack Logo off the menu bar when you reduce the window size and it defaults to the mobile view.I already know which site it is and it makes stealth browsing at work problematic if you can read the title form across the room.
This
They told you it was in Tenerife?
🙂
Those of us with a red 'P' went on a three week fact finding cycling tour of Nicaragua with Jeremy and Diane.
Didn't you see the notice in the Socialistrack sub forum?
We all agree that the current forum is rubbish and needs an update.
Was I out when the researchers called?
I, like pretty much everyone else, agree that it ain’t broke, so don’t need fixing. It’s far and away the easiest forum to navigate and use, and the only forum I’ve used regularly and consistently since 2003.
The constant redirects are an unacceptable blot on an otherwise fine forum. Advertise like any normal website, not some Russian-brides, clickbait-ridden, mid 2000s, LingsCars embarrassment.
And ditch the swear filter.

vimeo links dont work
Yes they do. Take out the "s" in https.
I'd like a button that calls Ling to the thread. Bit like lighting the bat light over Gotham

Yep.
For about a year, wasn't it?
🙂

I would definitely be up for funding this
Nice design 'n all but a mobile friendly version or an app would be great!
This seems to be the only successful bike related forum in which people talk.
As a mobile app it could be a good social media site if it was cleaned up and all the news, buy/want and threads were on a single timeline like Instagram but you could filter it for just threads or selling for example.
I've not read the whole thread but I'm sure someone else has already pointed out that we are already crowd funding the forum with clickthrough ads for Russian brides, viruses and websites offering to explain how we make £1000 a day 😉
Anyway, more functionality would make the forum easier to use, not harder and the current layout could basically be maintained. Luddites arguing that it's fine, or that no changes are needed don't internet much.
oldnpastit - MemberAdd a feature that stops people arguing endlessly about trivia.
Avatars would go a long way to this because people would actually remember people (and not start randomly arguing ). They needn't be flashing straps or anything. Just a small avatar to help with putting virual names to virtual "faces".
I've not read the whole thread
Posting on STW implies as such. 8)
One click quoting built in would be cool as would "go to last post that I read" for a thread. I think that a search box style dropdown that pops up as you type a thread title showing related threads would be quite useful too, probably need to make the actual search better first though. Oh, links at the bottom of a thread to go straight back to overview etc.. would also be neat.
Overall I think that it works well enough as is though.

What is this witch craft of which you speaketh? Next shalt thou tell me thy can multi-quote??

Get out of town. The forum's perfect. Have you seen other fora? Massive GIF avatars, rambling signatures, nested cocking quotes... I could go on?

All of which can be controlled.
it is also apparent that lots of people on here are fairly well off
I'm skint pal. Spent all my dosh on a fancy P. 😉
Though I would look down the back of the sofa for spare change to move the reset button on the search page away from the search button to help my sausage fingers...

How about we ask Mark nicely to price up the improvements we would like and we crowd fund to get those changes implemented?
If a new forum was required (and it isn't), surely the best option would be to open source the code so all you know-it-alls can put your time where your mouths are and do it yourselves?
The mobile forum front page hysterically awful. Sure the dev team is small, but who signed off on a design where you can't see the OP, or the thread title, which are the only two things when determining whether it's worth clicking on, so you end up wasting time clicking on something you don't want to read and........ohhhh...I see
See also;you end up wasting time clicking on something you don't want to read and........ohhhh...I see
clicking on a thread twice in order to get to the last page.
reducing the number of posts per page from 40 to 35.
Gotta keep the page count up now.

Pop your catastro-truck into reverse, as you've overshot the middle ground.
I pay for my P. However, I’d happily pay more to have “ stickies “ so the main forums don’t get cluttered up with the daily shit threads, what lights, tubeless, x1, my gears don’t work etc.

Aint no reverse gear on this catastro-truck partner. No brakes neither... no siree!
I'd like a Magnetodog emoji for when something is so awesome a 'like' button just won't do.
I also like the current setup. Straightforward to use, quick to load.
As others have noted, a link to last page on mobile (longer thread titles hide the current one) would be all I'd like to see changed. I use Google to search the site mostly anyway.
The main things I like are that it's text-based and low bandwidth; I can use it with any data connection, on any device.
