Rufus Wainwright does Lenny Cohen. ๐ฏ
Haters will hate, but I think this is pretty good:
Not quite as good as the original but still bloody good
Sweet Dreams ,Marilyn Manson.
Mogrim that Nina Gordan one is one my favorites as well....sounds awesome but also makes me chortle.
This is probably going to be contentious one but I prefer this over the original Smiths version....sorry in advance to any Smiths fans:
Valerie, Amy W / Mark Ronson
Utter rubbish..possibly the worst cover ever!
Easy ,Faith No More.
The ultimate classic ๐
Wrong to say it eclipsed the original (Because thats brilliant too) but I've always loved this version.
Edit: just noticed its already been posted! Oh well at least that means someone agrees with me for once
The original gets on my tits, but I like this version...
amazing version.
This surely has to be the most perfect thing ever recorded. Just amazing, I could listen to it forever
Talking of Otis Redding - I dunno if this is a "better" version, but it sure demolishes dancefloors... ๐
love the Nina Gordon cover, and the Nirvana one
Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil +1
With a little help from my friends - Joe Cocker +1

Happy Mondays - Step On
You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding!
It's a pathetic travesty of a brilliant original.
Clearly the answer to this is all along the watchtower by Hendrix.
Genius cover, even Dylan preferred it and hates his songs been covered allegedly. That Ben Folds cover is brilliant ๐
Tim Armstrong was involved in the last one, but it still counts.
Sisters of Mercy's version of Gimme ShelterBlasphemy!
Haha! You'll not like this one then either. Local Sheffield band Whitewash [s]murdering[/s]covering Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights (ties in with the Hounds of Love mentioned earlier) starts at 27:45
I quite like this one.
How about this for a cheesefest, better than the Commodores/Lionel Ritchie version IMO.
S Club 7's "Dont Stop Moving" covered by the Beautiful South. Enjoy -
If no one has posted this, then I'm surprised (I can't be bothered waiting for all the YouTube vids to load).
The original ain't bad, but the Clash revved it up somewhat.
Johnny Cash - One
Hendrix - All along the watchtower for me. One of my favourite ever songs.
Lzzy Hale , acoustic cover of All IWanna Do (Heart)

First heard this cover version played at the Union Chapel, London, before she actually recorded it. I love the original, but this I adore.
Shan Colvin - Crazy

As much as I love the Kennedy's original, I think I prefer this one by Les Thugs.
No, the original is better IMO.
The original ain't bad, but the Clash revved it up somewhat.
Actually, I think I prefer the original.
Now this is better than the original, probably the poorest Nivana Nevermind track brought to life
keep 'em coming!
one of my favourite Cohen covers
3 pages in and no mention of the all-time best cover version of all time?
Come on!
Squeezebox man - hilarious!^^^
Toots and the Maytals, Country Roads
or
Kirsty Maccoll, New England
The Maytals version of Country Roads is one of my favourites
Another great Joe Cocker version:
Mike Flowers pops version of Wonderwall. So much better that than the whiney manc version.
Squeezebox Man is Alastair Anderson.
I think this cover of the whole of Dark Side of the Moon almost eclipses the original
The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain does more and better cover versions than anyone
Have a cigar done by the foo fighters with the drummer singing
Robert Wyatt - Shipbuilding (org. Costello)

also
not better than the original but well worth a look.
Quite fitting that one of the finest songs has the best cover version.not better than the original but well worth a look.
Yep so true.Mike Flowers pops version of Wonderwall. So much better that than the whiney manc version.
I think this cover of the whole of Dark Side of the Moon almost eclipses the original
Great in places but not all of it.
Great thread thanks to all for posting.(Quote button playing up a bit there.)
Here it is in all it's glory.
