Had the 'announcement' at our place 2 weeks ago. 17 people affected and 5 redundancies, i had 2hrs of panic as we had just agreed an extension with a builder, i was fortunate that my role didn't change enough to warrant a redundancy. I still don't understand why it always seems to happen at christmas, our financial year runs from sept to sept.

now trying to help a colleague prepare to apply for one of the new jobs, they are holding up ok but very very upset by it all.

OP - glad it worked out well for you, take the opportunity to address your t's and c's and maybe you can come out of it really well 🙂

We had just started to get the department back on it's feet when this has happened. So for me it's back to square 1 working my arse off doing everything "the best I can" as I have NO time to do everything.

But hey thanks for your comment.

Id suggest you look at what is actually required of you, sit down with the MD and lay out what you see your contract requires of you and tell him you wont be able to assist beyond that point, and then ask how he is going to deal with the situation. You sound like your busting a gut for someone who dosnt care, when you clearly are not in a position where it could be expected of you (I assume that from you saying you had no training and are not the manager). They cant sack you for not doing a job your not there to do.

@ OP - I wouldn't be too hasty about confronting senior management and enforcing your rights.

Take a look at the classic change curve. Dont assume you're that far through it - give it time and you'll get there.
