Im off to an international dark sky reserve this weekend.
The forecast looks promising and although the main aim is to appreciate the moment, I've allocated myself an hour to try to get a shot or two for posterity.
The problem is my camera is not suited to the task at hand.
8 secs max exposure time with max 400 iso in long exposure mode and f/3.5
Is it possible to get results with such inappropriate gear?
Anyone got any examples of shots they've achieved using less than ideal equipment?
according to my photopills app, that gives you an EV of -1.33.
Full moonlight is an EV of -3
this was f4.0, iso 800 and 13s shutter speed. which is an EV of -2.7

you'll get something. but it'll be the bright stars only.

to get something like this, I needed f4, 30s shutter speed and ISO of 2500 which is an EV of -5.5.

this was f5.6, 30s, ISO2500 with an EV of -4.5

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get the results I'm after then, although I notice a huge amount of ambient light in your shots from the mast.
I've just had a dig around in the attic and found an analogue slr, so I reckon I might try to source batts and film and try to coax a few shots out of it.
So I suppose my next question is which film to buy?
