I need to replace the TZ7 that some Sarf Afrikan baggage handler nicked (Grrr....). I'm happy to get the same again, unless it's position of STW Compact Camera Of Choice has been taken by another model.
So, TZ7 again, or something else?
if you were happy with it just replace it.
Buying surely on a random's say so may not be great- they may love their camera but you may not.
alternatively read some reviews.

I did - Canon S95. Couldn't be happier with it. It's brill.
If you want the big 10+x zoom again then try a Ricoh CX3 or CX4?
I used to have the older model Capilio R7 and it was great, very well built and easy to use with good features, excellent battery life to
The CX3 throws in HD video and a basic tiltshift-esque feature etc

i find that site very good for comprehensive camera reviews
Or there is still the Panasonic TZ7 or a TZ8 or TZ10 if you stick with what you know

The Canon S95 DezB recommends is slightly more expensive but very good

Just bought a TZ10. Very happy with pictures and usability. But I am a photography numpty.
I've bought my wife a TZ10 for Christmas based on the quality of the reviews etc. It seems to be pretty much as good as it gets for that type of camera and it looks like the HD video mode also works pretty well. I'm not sure if the GPS is much more than a gimmick though, and that seems to be one of the main differences between the TZ10 and the 7 or 8.
In the same boat - looking for a new camera - fancied the TZ10, but apaperntly the GPS is a bit of a gimmick which is always on by default and has to be switched off manually. If you forget, it eats batteries. TZ8 seems to be choice and is on sale at amazon
