Just hobbled away from my first spinning session ..
if I ever get the use of my legs back, can I use my own shoes by replacing the SPD cleats with the sort of cleats used on the spinning shoes? I guess I am assuming that there is a standard type of spinning bike pedals ....
from the ones I've seen, I thought they would take shimano cleats? 😕
Yep, every spin bike i've used has been spd compatible.
Yeah most (if not all) take Shimano SPDs, my Mrs goes along in her road spd shoes and clips in
Hmmm ... seems to me that the cleats were much bigger than SPD ... I need to look more closely, at a time when I can focus my eyes.
After some small internet research, I think the cleats were likely [url= http://www.cyclingshop.dk/product.asp?product=87 ]LOOK[/url]. So - can I fit them to Shimano shoes, just be unbolting the SPDs?

Dr J - Shimano road SPDs are different to MTB SPDs

Just don't walk in them because they are made of slippery cheese.
Have also just hobbled back from my first spinning class ... I never thought it was possible to sweat that much 😳
Some people were clipped in, so I had thought about doing so next time, but I only have mtb spd's - would I need to have road ones?

I've been to 5 different gyms with spin bikes and they've all used off-road spd's. I hadn't seen or heard of any that use road spd's until DrJ's post above.
IIRC they use SPD system, not the SPD-SL.
Racking my memory ... I think maybe the pedals were double sided, Look and Shimano - does that sound likely?
Shimano Road SPDs are not double sided (I've got the scars to prove it!)

They are double-sided, but it's a flat pedal and strap, and Shimano SPD...
Why not ring the gym and ask them??
Its certainly standard Shimano SPD's at my gym.
I use an old pair of MTB shoes that have worn seized in cleats.
Good enough for spinning in though
