I quite enjoy that Channel 4 programme with the Life on Mars dude, it's a bit samey, buy barn find car, do it up, auction it, but given a script he could play the Clarksonesque oaf as well as Clarkson himself.

.....the most intolerable thing on the radio at work, makes the care home show with dull bruce seem interesting.

Ken Bruce, dull? Surely not? He's the best DJ on the radio these days! 8)

(doesn't say much for the others mind!)

Can someone sum up the past 4 pages...
although let me guess some people hate Chris Evans, some people love him. Some people hate top gear, some love it.
Some people just like to argue ๐Ÿ˜†

I know it goes against the general feeling but I think it's a great choice. Very much in the same mould only more positive and without the hangups of old. Loved the TFi Friday and no reason this couldn't be as good.

To some extent I feel it's a shame they couldn't just slot May and Hammond back in there but I think they want a whole new thing. and if you've seen it, I think that's a hint as to who I'd like at least one of the presenters to be.

I do however know who I'd not like it to be.

Quentin Wilson
Suzie Perry
That Glenister fella
Jodie Kidd
Vicki Bulter Wotsit

Time for some new blood in the other roles (at least to TV) and at least one of them has got to be a bit handy behind the wheel.

Highest radio Audience by show
1. Radio 2 (Chris Evans) - 9.85m
2. Radio 4 (Today) - 7.1m
3. Radio 1 (Nick Grimshaw) - 6.2m
4. 5 live - 2.6m
5. Kiss UK - 1.78m[b]
Sometimes you just have to admit you might be in the minority.

Quite right.

Along with 55 million other UK residents, I don't listen to Chris Evans on the radio.

Those who do listen to him, should realise they are in the minority.

Interesting to hear that Evans will both present and produce the show.
As for a female presenter I'd like to see Susie Wolfe give it a bash. She is always knowledgeable and enthusiastic during her stints on Sky F1 and unlike 'the other' Suzi she seems to have something more to offer than the occasional thigh flash...

Either way he's the most successful radio presenter out there, no one else comes close.

Well Wogan had 8.1 million which would put him in second place.
We'll see what the viewing figure for TG are mid series. Unless he improves previous figures and the BBC maintains sales of TG abroad, it'll be considered a failure.

That's where the money is, have your production company produce the series and sell it to the BBC for 10s of million, rather than agree a salary which the BBC gets beaten up over by the gutter press as being a waste of public money etc.

Has CE / BBC said what will happen to the Breakfast Show?

All this talk of Evans not going down as well as Clarkson overseas. Isn't it just the format that is used overseas that makes the bbc loads of money, rather than broadcasting the same show. In the us, aus and France they definitely have their own version of the 3 idiots. It defiantly wasn't jc dubbed into french that I saw whilst on holiday.

Is Evans known abroad?

Doesn't really matter that much, Top Gear is the brand and if he does a good job, it will still sell well overseas.

Good call, but expect the "other two" will be underlings with no personality, afterall you wouldn't want to show Chris up would you.

So I'm going for the "other two" as:

Pepe' le Peau
&
Deputy Daug

Am I the only person who thinks that there is a lot of angry petrol-heads on this thread, which is quite ironic for a MTB forum?

It's just semi-factual light entertainment, get a grip

Nope, I find it quite odd. A lot of people with issues letting it all boil over at Chris Evans...

Being a MTB doesn't mean you can't be a petrolhead.

It's just semi-factual light entertainment, get a grip

Exactly.

lots of cyclists are petrol heads

Sean Kelly, being interviewed after the โ€™84 Amstel Gold Race, spots his wife leaning against his Citroรซn AX. He interrupts the interview to tell her to get off the paintwork, to which she shrugs, โ€œIn your life the car comes first, then the bike, then me.โ€ Instinctively, he snaps back, โ€œYou got the order wrong. The bike comes first.โ€

It's the anger that I find really weird.
I like cars but not enough to argue about them

Anger? Have I missed a bit, who's angry?

I gather a woman is to be politically correctly enrolled in the disaster, no doubt it will be one of those the BBC constantly likes to annoy us well spoken people with, an 'estuary' or even worse Liverpudlian accent. I do so hope it fails..

Anger ?

Nahh, mild annoyance maybe. Don't go confusing the real world stuff that matters with stuff that doesn't matter.

My beef is with the BBC and it's limiting viewpoint and even more limiting choices. But we don't have a thread on that so I'm in here with a trebuchet throwing bowlders every now and again, from a safe distance.

Strangely enough I don't particularly like CE, like TG (before I really went off JC), but think CE on TG might be a good choice.

It's the anger that I find really weird.

It's not actual anger.

It's just a few people that like to think they are Charlie Brooker, that's all.

Not read any of this [ skimmed this page]as I just dont care

Good interview on Radio 4 media show about 30 minutes ago* with CE and the BBC 2 controller. Some of you may wish to miss the second part as she is a woman.

* will be on iplayer

Evans has confirmed that one of the presenters will be female.

Occam's Razor says Evans, Plato, Perry.

Summary for those of us interested, but CBA listening? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Out of interest, what is your opinion of TG, JC and CE taking over?

I'll admit when I first read the thread title I misread it as 'Ched Evans to lead top gear line-up'.

Naturally it got my attention..

I really like Chris Evans, he transformed the Breakfast show, pushed R2 to an all time high in ratings. Huge success for the BBC. Also a genuinely nice bloke, very generous and has raised millions for comic relief.

Which was in 2005, which coincided with me starting to listen to BBC 6Music, not a coincidence, either.
He irritates me on the radio, even more than Keaveny, amazingly, and I don't see myself watching TG in future.
Because my dad gets The Mail, I look through the magazine on Sundays, especially CE's car review; he may be a petrolhead, and love cars, but he's remarkably ignorant about them at the same time, I've noticed plenty of factual errors in his reviews, so I'm not encouraged by his taking over.
Oh, BTW ernie, your remark about ginger being a lifestyle choice is a spectacularly stupid and ignorant thing to say, even by your standards as a resident troll.
You really ought to be bloody ashamed of yourself. ๐Ÿ™„

I'll expect that Chris Evans will probably be accompanied by a woman and a black/Asian person.

I didn't suggest a critique of his show, just listen for details on how to become a co host.
