Opinions on cheap Gore-tex jackets on eBay, for example this North Face for £40 +P&P.
Apparently they're imported. Thoughts?
If it's too good to be true.....
They're fake.
That's what I thought, seller says they're not. But... that particular seller has zero feedback.
Most definitely not real. They COULD be from the same factory in China (and merely passed through a side door) - but thats a romantic 'bargain' image for some when they see a 'bargain'.
I saw a high-end (higher than NF) down jacket on ebay that normally retails for silly money going for £100 (seller sold loads looking at his feedback) and I asked him point-blank and his reply was 'no replica'. Couldn't believe he was bloody honest.
Seller: Cheap genuine Goretex jackets for sale
Punter: Wow! That's cheap, are they genuine ?
Seller: Bah! Foiled again, it's a fair cop guv.
😉
If you go to Thailand or China you see tonnes of fake North Face gear in all the markets. It looks alright at first glance (all the right tags etc.) but when you get close up the stitching is usually really ratty. It goes without saying it's not real Goretex too.
Why don't you play guinea pig and let us know whether it's fake or not.
There are some amazing copies coming out of China.
OP - if the seller said 'liquidation stock' I'd run a mile as no way you'd price genuine NF jackets that retail at 5times more for peanuts in a coming winter.
Its either fake or nicked stock.
So obviously fake, including the membrane. I wonder how it actually performs; 6 months and it's all delaminated, assuming there's even got a membrane!
Fakes.
Fake. I was looking for a new jacket a few weeks back and all the google searches can up with dodgy sites with variations on thenorthfaces, thenorthfaceclearance etc
Why can't they be shut down?
Fake, and not a particularly good one. TNF don't use solid zip pullers like that - every one I've seen has been a fairly plain metal puller with a string-tab bit on it. Wrist closures tend to be in the material of the jacket too, not a plastic thing. Press-studs look wrong too. The biggest giveaway is the fact they've not put "North Face" anywhere in the title or description, so that TNF's brand protection people don't report it to ebay straight away.
Looks like the sort of thing you'd buy with a Regatta label for £20, which has had some TNF logos and detail (badly) applied.
