The 204ps 4 motion VW T6 kombi.. Surely the ideal stw ride...
Have only skimmed the thread as I got bored with all the lusting after modern sports cars and the like, but you seem to be the only person suggesting one of those which is strange. Though if we're going money no object then I don't really care that much about the engine or 4WD but would definitely get a T6 California (not sure what the advantage of a Kombi is?) Sure a sporty car might be interesting for a bit, but I prefer other ways to get my thrills and one of those would make life generally better.
I suppose if I was going to get an interesting car then it would be some sort of classic which would be fun to drive relatively sedately - maybe an E type.
Everybody already has a Vw Transporter these days, though 😉
What I really don't want ever again however is front wheel drive.
New Abarth 124...

Or Giulia?

In the flesh it's hideous. Plus a soft top suv??!! Really?! 😡
Sadly pimped up T5/T6s are becoming the choice for Chav wagons. Makes a standard T5/T6 less appealing.
Nope. Same things apply. 2 of those are just track day weapons, one is not going to be fun going slowly, and the last is for people who like having their car stroked at rural pubs.
Still think it's a chronic lack of imagination and ambition. How about an ERA?

Oi! Don't write them all off!

I actually want a Volvo 240 but I'm not allowed one. Too big, too ugly and too thirsty according to my fiancé.

No thanks - done my mid-life crisis already... 😉

The defender isn't an SUV. It was a proper Utility Vehicle and had no pretensions otherwise.
It also had functional reasons to sell as a soft top, not a hideous fashion accessory.
I'd like a new Doblo and a rust free Mk1 MX5, ta.
Fail to see the appeal of a new car when you can pick up a few year old, well looked after BMW M3 (or similar) for the same price as some brand new Hyundi sh*tbox that'll loose half its value in depreciation over the first couple of years!
Trouble is your wallet will get raped when it breaks...royally. My uncles RS6 had some pretty big bills. One that was more than we paid for our 330!
I wanted my MX5 because it was nice to drive, more practical than a motorcycle, cheap to buy and run and I can leave it outside on a city street all year round.
I also want a TVR but not enough to own one

I suppose that's similar image based thinking which leads to all the other cars people seem to want.
I actually wanted an Audi A2, so we got one.
Very happy with the little thing.. all aluminium so less than 1000kg, no rust, Audi build quality and great on fuel

I drive a petrol / hybrid because of emissions and running costs. Its the best car for me on my salary with my view on things and but I would drive a Tesla if i had more cash.
P90D please....
It's always a balance between want and suitability. For me something practical but fast will always be required, but depending on how much I can afford. It'd be a gradually increasing size/speed of practical cars that'd only top out at around £100k.
I own a Skoda Fabia VRS. I wanted a Ford Fiesta ST but ones the same age were twice as much.
If I had a Ford Fiesta ST I'd probably want a Toyota GT86.
If I had a GT86 I'd want a Mustang or Focus RS.
If I had a Focus RS or Mustang I'd want a Mercedes C63S AMG estate.
If I had a C63 estate I'd want a Brabus 650 estate. Or if I needed a big car the Merc CLS63 Shooting Brake.
And that's about where I'd stop. I can't say I'm excited by supercars particularly, I'd not want to own one certainly.

The M3 will also depreciate like a stone, until it's old enough to become a classic. In the meantime you have to fuel, maintain, tax and insure it.
Or you can buy a sh*tbox Hyundai that will be taxed, insured and guaranteed for a few years. And cheaper on fuel.

Not to mention cheaper maintenance costs even out of guarantee.

Oh yes - the M / RS / AMG tax is brutal on parts / servicing.
If I had the cash I'd have a current RS6 - I think they're a great looking thing.
I'd love a Cayman GTS as well; love the noise and think they look better than the latest 911.
I've a soft spot for electric cars. Think about all that torque, available from 0rpm up, the perfect weight distribution and the traction from four electric motors. The technology is only going to improve, so the idea of an electric vehicle with a useable range can't be far away. If only they could be made to sound like a 1980s vintage Alfa Milano V6...
Speaking of which, if I had an excess of disposable income, I'd probably have one of those new Alfa Guilias too.
I bought what I wanted, a plain old golf. With most things, I just want something simple, reliable and affordable. Money no object I'd probably still have a golf, just a newer one. Generally don't give a shit about cars, I just don't get it.
A New Mustang GT for me. A big loud 5.0 litre V8, brash American muscle car looks, juvenile touches like ground speed instead of kph on the speedometer. Lots of fun!

Nope, older M3's are hardly depreciating now. Yes Hyundai is cheaper on fuel/insurance but a holiday to Magaluf is cheaper than a trip to St Lucia, and which would you rather take every year?

This thread is about cars you actually want! Can't imagine why you'd actually want a hyundai over an M3 if you really had the choice. As agent said, it's the difference between a weekend in Skegness or a weekend in Dartmouth. You don't go to Skeggy because you want to!

This a friend of mine has an M3 Coupe (last of V8's) He says its now starting to hold its value. Granted its lost probably half its value already 😯

And the rest.
I'm not knocking them (I love them and they'll never make an engine like that V8 again) but it's not buying them, its the running of them (VED, fuel, insurance and repairs). I'd have one in a heartbeat but I think the running costs would take the shine off it pretty quickly.

I'd rather have the Hyundai over the M3 - I can't afford a car just for weekend fun, it's something I'll be using regularly, with a family, to go shopping / take us to the beach / etc. etc. And a Hyundai is a lot better at all that.
Anyway, why go to Dartmouth for the weekend when you could go to Amalfi or Cantabria?
Enjoy your Hyundai then 😕
He says its now starting to hold its value.
my Alfa will eventually hold it's value - it will go all the way down to sh1te and stay there...
