Looking to go later this year maybe around October - November. Has anyone been? Any hotel Suggestions / locations? Just want a week of sun and somewhere nice.
Thanks
Got friends who runs hols there. May see her at trailquest today and will get back to you.
Father in law went last year, he stayed in Boa Vista. I suppose it depends on what you want from a holiday but he had a great time and said the hotel was lovely.
yeah, went to boa vista last year around that time. great place for some winter sun. all inclusive, lovely hotel, just perfect for lazing around.
theres 2 hotels on that island, both same owners and identical really. only slight downside, you werent allowed to go far into the sea most days cos of currents, but still, had a lovely holiday.
as i said, not a lot to do, just sunbathe and drink alcohol ๐

Based in Keswick. Give them a ring - nice folk.
Darcy went and enjoyed it muchly, IIRC, but he's on a mega-flounce (Or ban, not sure)
We went to the island of Sal (thomson all inclusive job). Great for diving and kite surfing, not great for much else other than sunbathing imo. Had a bad experience of going in to the main town where we got mobbed and harrased quite badly which was a real shame as apparently it isnt the locals that do that but people coming in from the mainland. There really isnt much to see on that island apart from a massive rubbish dump. Can't say anything re the other islands though.
It can be massively breezy in November. That will make it feel chilly if you want to sunbathe.
I went to Sal, we stayed in a cheap hotel in Sal town and had a whale of a time there. The locals will hassle for buying trinkets etc. but we never felt threatened at all.
I went for the windsurfing. God help anybody stuick in one of those wretched holiday prisons.
Thomsons provides all inclusive holidays - you'd stay at the Rui probably. Its about Euro 3 taxi ride from the centre of town. Otherwise there are plenty of hotels and self catering places around. There's a list of the type of things you can do with indicative prices here: (this is a friend's site).
As BigJohn says, the locals will try and sell watches, sunglasses etc or ask you to visit their art gallery but are harmless. A polite but firm no suffices.
Not to discourage you at all but my mom her partner and my aunt and uncle went last year to sal on an all inclusive.
Anyway my uncle was in the sea when a wave caute him off guard and he ended up breaking a bone in his neck and was paralysed on the beach, it took over 3 hrs for the medical person to come from the medical centre which was 10 minutes walk away, once they got him to the medical centre (there is no hospital btw) they wanted money first treatment second, they had to get 2000 euros, it doesnt matter if you have insurance they want the cash there and then, the insurance company even phoned them and said we will pay but still not good enought. They then left him in a room for 3 days while a doctor was flown in from tenerife to then fly him to a hospital in Dakar, Senegal.
This may not be the case for everyone this is just one mans experience of what happened when something went wrong
A mate from work went a couple of years ago and hated it. 2 weeks all inclusive and he was itching to come home before the end of the first week. Not much to see and very little to do apart from sunbathe apparently.
Me and the Mrs went about a month ago. Beaches are brilliant, miles and miles of unspoilt golden sands, which is exactly what we wanted. It was bloody windy though. For a chill out on the beach holiday its ideal, If you are after culture and a five star hotel experience then it may well not be what you want.
Well (most of) the locals might be harmless but we certainly didnt feel particularly safe when wandering around the town. We jumped in a taxi at the hotel and asked to be taken to the main street, on the way in the guy was on his phone and then when we got dropped off outside a pharmacy and were told the main street started right there (clearly didnt). At that point we thought it wouldnt be much of a walk so just got out and then as if by magic some random guy appeared saying hello and trying to be friendly saying he recognised us from our hotel as he worked there etc. Obviously not believing him we set off walking (at this point we discovered that it was more than the very short walk we anticipated). We were polite enough to the guy who was trying then to convince us to come to his brothers house where we could be gifts etc. After this wore thin we just said no thanks and please can you leave us alone. He followed us from a close distance in to the main shopping area where we basically grabbed a couple of postcards and then jumped straight in the nearest taxi to get back. The guy then appeared next to the taxi trying to get us to wind down the window and then half started chasing the taxi as it drove away.
Probably just one crap experience so wouldnt expect this to be the norm.
I did do a cave dive (an ex marine guy took me in despite me not being PADI qualified...another story) which was amazing and apparently one of the best places in the word for kite surfing so don't be put off too much!
We stayed on Sal in a one of the smaller hotels in Santa Maria and like some other posters went for the wind. Its a great place for kiteboarding and I liked the cachupa for breakfast (a bit of cassoulet type affair), the excess of rum and the quad bike ride around the island (shouldnt bother with the western side or Espargos town)
I wouldn't bother if the wind wasn't one of the reasons to go to Sal. The mixture of Senegalese street traders and the overspill of expats from the Canaries, not forgetting the Italian sex tourists makes a night out rather eclectic!
Santiago and Fogo are meant to be the islands to go to if you want to escape a bit more.
The fish was good. HTH
coma2s !!!!!!!!!! My wife and I were talking to your Mum and her partner in that Hotel in Boa Vista last year in early October outside in the bar, I was on honeymoon !! Your Mum just wanted to go home, spoke to them a few times over a couple of days, saw your Uncle on the sunlounger outside the hotel in the carpark waiting for the medics for every, he looked in a bad way. It must be the same incident, cant be two accidents like that, Im sure your Mums partner had a strong Brummie accent and looked a bit like Bob Hoskins.
Hope your Uncle is alreet now !
BIZARRE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
