I have a Vango shorty mat for hiking or bivving but it kills my back for car camping with mates.
Any recomnedations for a bit more padding that still packs fairly small? Not too fussed about weight as it won't be carried about.
Would the Alpkit Numo tick both boxes for comfort and lightweight lugging?
We use the old Alpkit Dozer for car camping, but it's not light.
The new [url= https://www.alpkit.com/products/dumo ]Dumo[/url] might be more what you're after, although the lack of foam means less insulation if that bothers you
I use a Thermarest Neoair Dream for car camping, it wasn't cheap and doesn't pack small but it's supremely comfortable. Not far behind for comfort is my Exped Synmat UL7, this definitely has a small pack size.
The big Alpkit thing, mine's called a fat airic but it's something else now, it rolls up to about the size of the old karrimats.
Yep, that's what we use - I think the new version is the Dozer.fat airic

I've also got a Fat Airic but forget about that style of mat being what you want. It's for car camping only.
The Dumo or Numo might work for you. The Dumo is heavy but only you can decide on what comfort/weight you will put up with.
I think because I already have a lightweight mat that works for those times i'm going to go for the Dumo. It's heavier but looks like the pack size is reasonable for a bigger mat (32x41cm)

Don't forget, you can use your shorty mat and another; two thinner mats might be better and more adaptable than one thick one...

I tried a few other ones and most of them sounded like you where sleeping ontop of a bag stuffed with plastic bags.
I bought one of these as an emergency purchase when I'd forgotten my aging Thermarest. It is really good. Quiet, non-slidy, warm, comfy. Decent price.

Car camping? Isn't it sleeping in your car?
The Alpkit Dozer is wonderfully comfortable.
Doesn't pack up v small. Do you have a small car then?
