Dumbass question but as per title...wife wants to buy a name that is available but unsure of next step.

Easily have been good for me, but names.co.uk does like you get a bit better value for money to me.

I don't think it matters. What does is finding a good host for your website. If a domain name is free you can register it with the host of your choosing. It's all about what you get for your money with the host. I use Heart Internet.

I use 123-reg. Whether they're the "best" or not I don't know, but they've served me well.
Wouldn't touch GoDaddy with a long pole.

fasthosts.co.uk for me. Never had an issue with them and their tech support actually can be contacted...
