No-one could stand up straight if they were carrying round all that lard.
world class leader
My god. That clip. That's how the world sees us. And they're right, aren't they?
It illustrates perfectly where we are as a country. Its fitting that it features the man who got us here
A global irrelevance. Unfortunately, the UK doesn't seem to have realised this yet.
I think we need to be careful that we don't allow his low standards to become a self fulfilling prophecy - "we" are not like that, on the whole, or at least I'm not, and neither are the overwhelming majority of people I know or come into contact with.
"We" need to be making the point that "we" are - and deserve - better than that.
He did look absolutely terrible in parliament yesterday, even by his standards. That picture above 😂
Remember when Corbyn was too scruffy?
Whenever I see Johnson now (Boris©), I am haunted by that excellent Jeremy Vine article that someone kindly posted previously (make sure you read to the end):
https://reaction.life/jeremy-vine-my-boris-story/
It is clear that he is a gifted orator who can pick the mood of a room and give them a laugh.
But on repeated viewing he is getting tedious and repetitive. PMQ illustrates this, repeating the same jeuvernile insults, the same Brexit rally calls to his party, but virtually no substance or depth.
When you look at that photo, it is not intuitive but I think he is incredibly vein. Part of that is the look. But also it is an intellectual vanity. He is a very much a legend in his own mind. If labour wanted to attack him, that is what they should go after: his laziness, dim-wit, and most cuttingly that he is boring. During the partygate episode one of his own MPs called him a wally and he visibly flinched - that cut deep.
So we have two imposter leaders on the world stage
A comedian who is a politician and a politician who is a comedian.
aw look, truss and johnson are holding hands
I can't agree that he's a 'gifted orator'. He has a shambling and boorish nature that a worryingly large amount of people find appealing
His oratory is awful. Unless rambling s**t bantz is now the mark of a great speech
Who could forget such profound wisdom as 'build back beaver'
His classical allusions were to remind us constantly that he went to Eton and therefore is superior and entitled. WAC.
Everything about him is an affectation. He’s a vacuum, completely devoid of substance. The tragedy is that nobody knows this more than him.

My definition of a gifted orator is someone who is able to inspire others to act beyond reason e.g.
-Hitler
-Churchill
In Churchill's case, it was to make people believe in what seemed like an unwinnable cause.
Johnson has got so little substance that all he has got is the ability to manipulate the public through speech.
Has he offered to supply Spitfires to Ukraine yet?
I had quite forgotten that.
“Which is why my political hero is the Mayor from JAWS.”
Laughter.
“Yes. Because he KEPT THE BEACHES OPEN.”
Do you know. During Covid. I had heard Boris wanted to be the Mayor from Jaws. To Keep the UK Open.
I had entirely forgotten the Jeremy Vine article.
I think that line from his article might be one of the rare times Boris is telling the truth. His political hero really is the Mayor from Jaws.

I can definitely agree. When someone says he's a 'gifted orator' it triggers me and I just think of the autumn conference 'bring back burger' nonsense and the fawning audience thinking it was hilarious
God I hate him. Get yourself off to Ukraine Johnson. I heard Mariupol is the safest place
"I think that line from his article might be one of the rare times Boris is telling the truth"
Yes, although it could equally be that he picks his policies to match his punch-lines.
Johnson has got so little substance that all he has got is the ability to manipulate the public through speech.
Even there he doesnt seem to do exactly well. PMQs unless he has thrown some bribes to the backbench MPs often falls flat and with the media its mostly them helping him out with carefully chosen soundbites rather than his full drivel.

He knows his audience. It is difficult to imagine anyone watches PMQs who doesn't already know how they will vote at the next election. As you say it is all about the soundbites. The bits in between are just the filler.
The media have an odd obsession with what fishmongers and market traders think. They have a quite Victorian view of the common man.
To be fair the way the UK left the EU and its new found sprit of independence and new standing in the world was neatly characterised by BoJo today in that suit. I liked the way he shuffled along the queue like a Vogon, with perfect head positioning.
Buccaneering Britain bursting forth on the world stage.

I had the though earlier today while out on a ride, I wonder if Johnson would go for a republic ? Someone should whisper President Johnson in his ear.
Not sure why that Cold War Steve has the other world leaders looking at him... only we English give him the attention he craves. Perhaps it's time we stopped.
Is that Billy Bunter without his cap in those clips
Maybe this is the great reset / humiliation GB needs, make us realise we aren't the global super power we haven't been since the 30s. Yes were important and have a contribution to make but we're not that significant anymore. Boris really does epitomize the end of an aristocratic family, I.e. the UK that really is broke, a shambles and living off the memories of past perceived glories as the new money circles the family estate.
Boris really does epitomize the end of an aristocratic family,
In the videos where the other world leaders are largely ignoring him, he looks like that slightly drunken uncle at a wedding who's desperate to find someone to talk to but who's one party trick of telling the same risqué joke to everyone regardless of how inappropriate it is has long fallen flat.
What an international laughing stock this country has become.
Reminds me of this

It's not the country, it's Boris (and good slices of his government). There were many similar pictures of Trump being ignored by world leaders at summits. Biden's not getting the same treatment.
The first fines for lockdown breaches in Downing Street are expected to be issued imminently after Scotland Yard concluded that laws were broken at the heart of government, sources have told the Guardian.
So if laws were broken..
....nah, I know the answers already.
🙁

Unfortunately - because of Boris (and good slices of his government) ... its the country. The damage the both the UK and the US have done to themselves by electing Boris and Trump is that we've raised the likelihood that we'll do it again. Doesnt matter that Trump is out of power - the damage has been done.
Its Trump's titty-lipped ripping up of international agreements and Boris's Government's failure to participate competently in negotiations and failing to honour agreements that were its own ****ing idea. Non of either country's neighbours, international allies and trading partners is going to be be willing to expend political energy, public money and the good will of their electorate brokering any kind of deal, relationship or treaty with either nation in future, knowing its only one election cycle (or even a few weeks in our case) away from being shat all over.
The US will elect another Trump one day - we'll elect another Boris. Thats who we are now.
Good to see they've rushed through their enquiries so they could bury the fines under the Ukraine situation...
Presumably any civil servants ticketed will be formally disciplined for breaching the civil service code?

And to stress this point, noises from number 10 are about triggering article 16, blowing up (no pun intended) the GFA and triggering a trade war with the EU and a stand off with America
Proof, if any were needed, that Johnson will prioritise his own survival over absolutely everything, even risking a massive rupture with all our allies at the worst possible moment Imaginable
You can imagine how that would go down in the Kremlin? But Johnson needs to cattle-prod the dead carcass of Brexit to try and avoid losses at the upcoming local elections, as he has nothing else, so here we are…
Has there ever been a more dangerous politician in power in this country?
He'll be secretly hoping the Queen dies to give him some extra cover.
The carnage in Ukraine has been a godsend for him, no doubt he's been chuckling about it with Carrie.

On the one hand, yes - it's provided something else for the media to look at.
On the other hand, it's dramatically exposed how the Tory Party absolutely relies on dirty Russian money and how it has allowed itself and the country to become completely corrupted by it all.
BJ (whether he knows it or not) is basically a Russian agent. Although "agent" might imply some sort of competence, "stool pigeon" might be more appropriate. Useful idiot.
Appointing the son of a former KGB agent into the House of Lords. It was a Russian-owned company that built the Downing Street briefing room - place is probably riddled with bugs and a direct feed to the Kremlin. There's a line in Yes, Prime Minister where Hacker is asking about foreign policy and why Downing Street isn't aware of it and he asks Bernard who else knows British foreign policy.
Bernard, totally deadpan replies: "oh that's easy. Only the Kremlin"
Met have confirmed 20 fines to be issued; no details - yet.
It won't make the slightest bit of difference. They literally couldn't give a flying ****!
They'll just shrug, laugh at us all (again!) and carry on regardless
The carnage in Ukraine has been a godsend for him
I think people underestimate how much it pissed people off when it was revealed that No10 wasn't following their own rules, even to the point that many Tory papers were critical of his behaviour. It may be off the front pages temporarily, but this sort of "one rule for the plebs..." scandal hangs about like a unwanted guest
And obviously this is the conformation that after weeks of Boris saying no rules were broken, very clearly rules were broken.
but this sort of “one rule for the plebs…” scandal hangs about like a unwanted guest
Might be a little more potent if the bloody labour party were offering any sort of opposition but Keir's too busy commenting on the royal family and banging the drum for war.

Think I'd go with the poster campaign.... "Johnson and the Tories held a party to celebrate every 10,000th Covid death" "AKA let the bodies pile up Bash"

Thing is, most of the electorate couldn't give a toss about this kind of stuff. Imagine a local news crew in, I dunno, Middlesborough, Stoke or Plymouth asking one of the locals in the High Street what they thought of Johnson, I'll give you fifty quid if the answer is "I'm concerned that he's allowed the UK to become a vast washing machine for dirty Russian cash"
